So I am using my friends @ALBO land cruiser for about the next week and a half, we got his 1fze fully rebuilt with 6 new OEM pistons with a .50mm overbore and a head port and polish, new oil pump, new timing chain, polished valves All OEM parts. All else stock. Stock intake stock everything else.

I just got done breaking it in 800 miles, i changed the oil and filter and did a full throttle test, it was very very sluggish and lazy. Then I remembered he still has the same catalytic converters since 2003!

Perfect timing for a set of long tube headers !

So that's what I got, a set of 6-1 long tubes, the firing order of the engine, 1 7/8 primaries, 3-inch collector, and 3-inch connecting pipe. NO CATS.

Stock muffler and stock tailpipe resonator.

The sound remained exactly like stock, a very slight deeper tone when you blip the throttle at idle.

What happened is strange, right after the header installation, I did a full throttle test and it was still bogged down and lazy like before, power loss at 3400-3600rpm , . Intrestingly after a 4-5 full throttle pulls, the power kept increasing and the mid range power loss was gone, this must be the ECU adjusting?? I did not know old ECUs could adjust themselves. It can't be anything else? its a freshly rebuild engine so it cant be carbon build up getting burnt out or something like that.

Another thing, before 5000rpm it accelerates sluggishly, after 5000 rpm the thing really starts to wake up, its a massive power boost after 5000rpm till 5500(red line).

This must be because of the head porting since the bigger ports only give you benefits if the airflow requirements are high enough. + the header primaries are 1 7/8 which is fairly large, probably shifting the power band up slightly.

Very interesting results.

In conclusion, significant power gains over 5000 rpm , same power below 5000.

As promised here are the after header and cat delete videos:

if you focus you could see the power surge after 5000 rpm

5000 RPMS???? What is this, an Integra Type-R? You guys treat your Land Cruisers massively different than most of us over here. Awesome to see.

? Playing in the snow here see those rpms easily.

I'm in the lower Midwest - little snow, no sand, just a lot of flat land and low RPMs.

Excuse my ignorance but are you are saying that removing the cats didn't make any difference unless you rev it like the space shuttle?

What's wrong with 5 grand? Toyota put the limiter at 5500 for a reason

mine is rarely over 3k. this is weird to watch.
Indeed. Tho the few times I've ventured beyond 3k there is a satisfying power bump around 3400. I save it for the slippery climbs in ice and snow lol.
