Hey everyone,
I am finishing up my head gasket job on my 80 after a month of thoroughly going through everything I can get my hands on as PM.
Tonight I was on the last steps I went to change the oil before starting and a significant amount of coolant was sitting at the bottom of the oil pan when I pulled the drain plug. (Briefly thought I loosened the trans drain plug)
The coolant wasn’t there when I did an oil sample for Blackstone to confirm my HG failure, so I can only assume it made its way in during the head removal or when I replaced the oil cooler seals. I let the oil fully drain, and after a few seconds, it just started to look like oil again, but for a second there, it was straight coolant.
I’m very concerned knowing that much coolant was sitting in the crankcase and has made its way inside the oil pan. Seeking advice on how to go forward as I don’t want to smoke my bearings and all this very hard work be for nothing.
Should I attempt to flush cheap oil through before even starting the truck?
Or should I continue to just fill it up like I was planning on doing, running a few minutes then draining it immediately after?
I’m being super cautious with this as I have a lot banking on this going right; the truck is my primary vehicle and will be used for full-time travel within the next few months. I can’t afford for anything to go wrong.
This could be common, and I’m just overthinking it, and if I am, please excuse my ignorance. But any advice about what to do going forward would be super appreciated.
Thanks.
