Wow, what a project. A new wiring harness is the best bet of course. I'm sure you know that.

If that's not possible. In my experience the easiest way to do a repair of this type is to start by laying the harness out on a big piece of plywood or hardboard of some sort. Stretch it out and lay it out like it installs in the truck.
Then comes the fun part of tracing every wire from start to finish. With the help of the wiring schematic.

Time, time and more time. I wish you luck. I have never had to do a 80 series.
But have done many older cars in the past.

Thanx oldsrip.....thats what im doing...just on the floor (small house and wifey has issues with oil on my hands let alone greased up wires and boxes inside)...i did a simple labeling system using white tape and marked each wire and socket....but u cant imagine how messed up the wiring is when im following it....

i started with the combination meter....removed and tagged each wire, then the center of the dashboard (audio system, A/C etc)....coming up next are the lights (exterior and interior)....that will HOPEFULLY leave me with the ignition system to rewire and then move back to the lights etc...

The idea of a new harness would be great...problem is...the car itself isnt stock....used to be automatic, had a fuel pump change by PO..so no tacho now....audio system from a hyundai....no roof wiring...and plenty of sockets just trimmed and put in the fridge or glove compartment...i would still have to 'modify' it... ;(

looking for the 1994 EWD189U ...... and as im in Sudan, not only can i not access paid services, our country IP is banned from the majority of US and EU sites....axis of evil etc

I applaud your efforts. I think there won't be too much help on this project from MUD because this is uncharted territory. Also since it's diesel you just eliminated a lot of the 80 series experts since most are petrol.

Thanx NLXTACY.....yeah i realized that most were petrol...but the site also has some extreme mods that make my eyes roll....will appreciate any help anyone gives...and just go about learning as about my LC as i go along....

I am thoroughly impressed with your persistence and your willingness to jump into such a project. Necessity is the Mother of All Invention.

The fact that it is a diesel makes the basic operation more simple. Once it is running, it will stay running as long as it has fuel pressure. You shut it off by stopping the fuel.

When I look at the tractors we have used, you need ignition for the starting motor. You also need the electricity to power the fuel injectors. When it is running you need an alternator to charge the battery and maintain the power to the injectors. When you break it down to its basics, this is the best set-up for where you are. All the rest are "luxuries" (power windows, power locks, power seats, air conditioning, lights.....)

Sorry I'm no real help other than moral support....

Good Luck!

Moral support is key to motivation

Wow good luck on that restore I can imagine it being a long process

Thanx guys...moral support is very appreciated.

In Sudan we have three "industrial areas in Khartoum, all of which do have Toyota parts dealers. Problem is they all service the new models and charge waaaaay to much for the older models. Thats why we also have a second hand parts dealers, who mainly focus on corollas and camrys..... most of the LC parts they bring are from 2000 models and above.
I was thinking of contacting a relative in Duabi or Saudi Arabia, as they love these older models for dune bashing etc, but will do so only for the really critical stuff....as i do have an issue with the gearbox changing from 3 back to 2...but will look into it much later down the road.

anywayz...thak you..and any advice, as i said, is much appreciated.

Fuse Box terminals

Anyone has an idea how i can remove the terminals from the fuse box, relay blocks (1 and 2).

Some of the terminals and/or wires are burnt and i just want to do a fresh installation of terminals and wiring so i dont have to go back at a later time.....and i hate the idea of crimping and/or tapping and taping the new wires to the current wreck.....

i made a makeshift clip removal 'thingy' out of construction wire (strong and narrow) but they just wont move....tried from both sides..it worked great for the junction sockets, but nothing only 3 or four terminals from the boxes....would it be ok if i melted the retainer clips and then 'glue' the new ones in ???? would that cause any fire/electrical hazard??? and what type of glue do i avoid using near wiring???

i have silicon, super glue, epoxy and UHU.......these i know i have around the house.

ok...so....not stopping or giving up...i finally got the fuse box and RB2 terminals out (except for the melted in ones, 3 of them)...but couldnt remove any of the relay terminals in RB1......any help anyone???

i DONT have the special tool, but i made 2 from small watch screwdrivers, a hammer and an ex-water pump housing....hammered the screwdrivers on the pump block and they worked ....so far

This thread is awesome.. I will be cheering you all the way till the truck is finished.

Any more info on the cracked chassis? Location? Maybe post a pic.

the guy used around 1 meter of TIG (or whatever its called) to weld all round, top and bottom...i know i needed a plate, but i just wanted a quick solution so it doesnt expand or even break

so...after releasing all the pins and terminals....found a stone wall in front of me....terminal pins (female) available in the market....the pins (male) none to be found....only solution would be to crimp and solder them....then tape them....until someone here donates a shrink wrap for me :D

what is this???

so..im gathering all the relays, ICs, fuses to see whats working and what needs renewal...but....dont have any idea what this is...has no box...was in the glove box

Audio amp thing ???
