what next....?

with the generosity of scottryana and Boltripper...i will temporarily halt electrical work on the car....so....what do u mudders thing i should work on the coming days from the list i put together below:

1- redo the door panels.
want to cut new panels, upholster them and add courtesy lights (step lights i think they are called). Have already bought the 'raw' materials. and have a decent toolkit at home.
2- design my center console.
i love how the other mudders have mods done instead of the standard. Secure, CUP HOLDERS, gadget switches....and as a smoker...an ashtray. One way is to go with wood and upholstery, the other is metal (which can also be 'decorated'.
3- flooring.
Sudan is VERY dry, so im thinking of adding an insulator to the whole floor. the PO just glued vinyl to the metal...collects PLENTY of dirt, no sound proofing and is worn out. NO dynomat here, but im not looking for a BMW interior....i love the sound of my engine....would love to also be able to hear my fellow passengers from time to time too.
4- Steering hydraulic.
from time to time i have to add a very tiny bit of oil to it...seems one of the hoses or maybe the reservoir has a pinhole leak. messes up the engine compartment with all the dust we have here.
5- sleeeeeeeeeeeep

for 1 and 2, i will also post dimensions once i get down to them in case anyone else wants to go down that road. At least u will have a 'base' dimension plan to build ur own.

.....i wish someone would make a metal dashboard front...that would be something.

share ur thoughts with me people....:bang:

Taking things apart....

Its 6 am here....finished stripping, cleaning and stacking the interior...with wife's permission....indoors.

as u can see the door panels are soggy, cracked and have no way of being held on except by screw..the dashboard is cracked on top, but still in one piece...

After this thread, I don't think I'll ever complain about the condition of my 80. Easily the most determined, non-stop, self motivated work I've ever seen!

This project is an inspiration. I bought my cruiser with basically no mechanical knowledge, and after rebuilding axles, my starter, and many other projects I feel I have improved alot, but nowhere near any level to offer you any help other than moral support. My means are limited, but I too would be willing to help contribute to getting this cruiser back up to it's former glory. I'm subscribing and will keep up with your updates, best of luck!

No kidding!

I'm coming back to Uganda in May with a container. I could get many parts as far as Jinja if you want to take a bus down in June and pick them up.

Thank you very much for the support

You Know what!!!...this could be a start of a "We Are The World" remake.....and we could name it....USA to Sudan Cruisers....looooooool

I really appreciate the amount of support i find here...this is really what initially encouraged me to DIY it in the first place....Mudders are like their rigs...will never let u down.

The same here btw...im actually just starting to learn how to read and follow wiring diagrams....although my dad taught us plenty of ways to maintain house appliances, plumbing and even brick work....we never really sat down to schematics etc....getting gritty and dirty is my favourite way to learn....lets all hope we learn and then pass on what we learn to others....

why take a bus when u own a landcruiser.....

thank you for your offer, but it would be too risky taking any route to Uganda because of the situation in South Sudan.....geography wise, u are our second door neighbour.....but thanx again

testing

Back from work....i decided to pick up some whats its name wood....did a quick draw around the current door panel to see how it fits...remember how tight my garage is...so this is just a "rough sketch" kind of thing to decide what and where to install 'gadgets' on my doors.

Stripped the leather on the top part that sits on the window opening to also redo, was too dry, and in some parts, torn or cracked.

now look at those flip flops......i could easily be named the next Dolce & Gabbana model.....EASILY

see how the toe pattern is 'imprinted' on them...this is called the saw dust effect....very hard to achieve...looooool

the green bag is my fishing gear btw....tool box, fishing hooks etc.....yep...planning a trip on Friday (equivalent to Sunday in the US)...we go about 80km south of Khartoum and have a small fibre boat and outboard motor.

Headliner removal

I will probably move the cruiser out of the garage so i can remove the seats and take proper measurements.....

would anyone advice me on the headliner please....mine is VERY dirty and im sure i will also find burnt wires etc.... the moon/sunroof is sealed up with silicon ...guess the PO just didnt care....but having kids, you KNOW that it has to function....its one of those things my kids love....they actually measure how beautiful a car is by just having a moon/sunroof....

I would love to take it down and maybe redo one out of vinyl and install some kind of insulation.....here the temp in summer will reach 53 degrees celcius.....now THATS hot.

Advice please.....u know im on caffeine....:bounce2:

Disclaimer

Dear Mudders,

You may have read in some of my posts some of what i see as sarcastic humour...i do NOT intend to disrespect anyone. Its just my way of 'breaking the ice'... and to my fellow Muslims....Hajji, as u may know, is actually a compliment...i.e. that you have performed Hajj..the holy pilgrimage to Mecca..or as we see in movies, they pronounce it HaDji...and yes we are 'camel jockeys' as well to all the Geezers out there....its part of our culture...and as the poet Rudyard Kipling named us Sudanese as Fuzzy Wuzzies.....i definitely need a haircut.

with that said....if anyone feels i have in anyway offended then......take a break, have a kit kat :grinpimp: ..... i apologise, but i will continue .....

need your advice/suggestions:

1- Headliner - remove or not....does and donts (need to remove/fix moon/sunroof and maybe wiring)
2- Center console - ideas (basic requirements for the family: 2 front and three rear cup holders, USB charger x2)
3- Door panels - should i modify the handles to have cup holders there instead of center console?

A good read

While trying to get my schematics reading ability top notch..i went looking for the best wire gauges (sizes) to use for various connections...one of my main issues were the headlights....no matter which bulbs i put in...it just doesnt cut it...so i knew there was an issue with what wire size was being used.

Came on this page and its really worth reading all the way...

hope u find it as informative to u as it was for me.

Door step lights on my 94

I love the door step lights on newer models...so i decided to test this out....in theory it works...and i intend to install them (and the interior) with LEDs instead of the normal bulb.

the question would be....where....at the lower part of the door...or facing down under the door grab handle....hmmmmmmmmmmm???

comments/advice/suggestions welcome

doorlights.jpg

i took the initial idea from another post that just added a wire to the center lights so the luggage light goes on with the door lights...i just wanted to add step lights to the mix.
