My 80 blew it's HG yesterday on the highway - looks like just #1 - I got it turned off before the temp gauge got to red... I don't have the money to fix it right now and before I let it sit, curious what it would be worth as it sits. Just over 200k miles, no rust, and lockers. Cloth interior in great shape for 24 years. Thanks for the input....

thats a tough one.... hate to hear it Jay.

Id say 500 on low end and 2000 on generous high side for someone looking for the right base for a project. That said my high end would likely be 1000-1200. Never know without trying though. Could aim for 2.5K with some barter room but it may take a while to move.

Hows the maintenance otherwise? its stock is it not?

Unfortunately before it hit red doesnt mean a whole lot with the reputation of the stock guage. Id be more going on your word of shut it down ASAP upon first sign but that would likely mean less to a stranger.

X2 on what Jason said. I'd only be interested at the same numbers, more like $800-$1000

That sucks, Jay. HG kit isnt really bad price wise. Its all the extra "while youre in theres" that can add up. Before you get all crazy, let it sit if you can, cool off, and evaluate your options.

I've been toying with the idea of the aquala FJ80 kit that uses a 80 series frame...I wouldn't even use the engine, just lockers and frame...hmmmmm

Jay, that is most unfortunate....what color is it and any mods? If you are looking to sell I may know a potential buyer but I agree with advice from @stevezero....let some time pass.

? for the peanut gallery: So at what point do you replace a head gasket before it blows? Have a '94 with 94k miles and do I proactively replace HG due to age or do I go on mileage?

Thanks for info. It is completely stock. I bought it because it had the lockers and less than 200k. It's green but has bad peeling clear coat. Brand new (~3k miles) 285 Terra Graplers AT. I had planned to Monstaline it this summer.... sadly my Taco needed a flex plate this week too.... when it rains it pours! I have a neighbor that has been trying to buy it for years to V8 it... just don't want to part it out.

I will trade you a 2002 BMW cop motorcycle....good running and everything......?

Those guys must be high..... oh wait ;)

Everything here is stupid expensive..Even on CL people only want to knock like 10% off of new purchase price thinking its a great deal on a used part etc...I don't get it. Certainly makes finding good deals tricky!

For sale price does not mean sold for price. Don't let the prices you see on CL dictate what you think things actually sell for. If you pay attention long enough you will see quite a few vehicles that are priced high sit a long time. Some go away only to return a few months later with only a slightly lower price. My favorite in a while is one a body shop bought that had an engine fire, assked $3,800.00 and went away after months. IT came back after a couple months gone at $2,800 or so, then gone again.

In this case, the fact is that 80s with bad motors or trans are becoming more common. Only so many out there that buy them up.

Are you saying No rust and no lockers or No rust and has lockers? LOkers make a 1500-2k difference in my books. MY last 94 I bought with HG issues I paid 1200 for had 320k on it.

Jay did you say it had lockers?

At least $1500, if not $2000.

EDIT: Marshall beat me to it, lol.

I am interested.....how much ?

We are all a bunch of speculators, it's worth exactly what the buyer will pay for it. Good luck with the sale :)

Yes on lockers - no rust. Right now my wife wants to wait till we can fix it.... the low estimate of value from y'all helped her decide. I would have had to be $2500 or touch more for us to consider selling it.... heck the tires with 3000 miles are close to some estimates of value.... I "thought" I had seen locked axles going for ~$1k, but I could be wrong.

Good decision....I would easily pay $1500 for it right now. My green 93 would love to have its twin sitting right next to it. :D
