Oh man.. I have been looking for a "Poverty Pack" 80 series for over 4 years now. The biggest thing I wanted was no sunroof and no opportunity for leaks or rust as much as possible. I finally found for a 1991 FJ80 without a sunroof. It also was factory flawless which is nice. Interesting enough it has a roof rack, I want to assume it was dealer installed but who knows. As you can see in the pictures it is the tan/brown interior and 4K1 beige. It came from Eastern Oregon and has 0 rust. Engine is rough running and if anyone needs it for cheap let me know!

NOW LETS GET ONTO WHAT ACTUALLY MATTERS, THE BUILD!

I have a L9H 6.2 aluminum block from a 2009 GMC Yukon Denali (GEN4 LS) and a GEN3 4L80 2wd that is freshly rebuilt. I want it to be stock body highlighting the poverty pack aspects with tall skinny tires and roughly 2.5 inch lift. Unsure on tire size as I have not looked into what will look nice without having flares as I don't want it to stick out really any. The person I got it from needed it for the fenders and hood and front end essentially so I will likely buy another 91-94 hopefully of the same color to put it together as one. I would love to find one with a grey interior from either a 91-92 or a 93-94 cloth as this has brown (if anyone wants to fully swap interiors let me know!)

As far as the engine goes likely leaving it stock MAYBE slapping a cam kit in it for fun or looking into an LSA supercharger for memes. I will be using a Holley Terminator to talk between GEN4 Engine and GEN3 Trans.

As far as body I eventually will get it painted as the clear is faded and will potentially color change it to white as I feel that is the definition of Poverty Pack color having no clear. I will be swapping it to solid third windows next time the Toyota dealers run a 20-25% off sale again. Heard there was a vinyl style carpet option overseas and will look further into that as it would be simple as well as potentially even hand crank windows. Also if I can't find an interior or a rig to buy/swap with I plan on looking at just importing an entire interior from Japan or similar so its still all OEM but has the added cool factor. Plan on this being a forever rig as a daily driver along with my FJ62 build that's in my signature. If anyone has any advice or recommendations or more info on poverty pack and related I'm wanting to learn more as info for them is hard to nail down for USDM 80 ones.

If it has power windows & locks & sliding rear windows then my understanding is it’s not a poverty pack.
Nice that there’s no sunroof !
Sounds like it’s going to be a cool build never the less.

She will end up being a poverty pack essentially. The biggest thing for me in the sunroof everything else can be added to be a poverty pack. I also have a set of quad headlights that this will get when the time comes around.

Poverty pack is a spectrum. Good enough for me.
Being good enough for you don't make it a Poverty Pack 🤷‍♂️
Like I said it's SWEET that it doesn't have a sun roof.

This is the only reason that I said anything, I won't Jack you thread any more.

It 100% is a US spec poverty pack lol. Atleast in my book! No flares no sun roof is a poverty pack. Third slider dealer add on roof rack don’t really matter. I fully agree that PP is a spectrum in the states and for me the biggest thing is a cloth interior with no sun roof in my book is a USDM Poverty Pack hahaha

All 91-92 had cloth. To my knowledge there was no dealer third sliders.
IMO a true Poverty Pack has no power window /locks no third slider windows and no third row seats. that means no grab handles and no bolt holes in the floor.
You asked for info on Poverty Packs.
IMO if your happy with it that's all that matters.

hand window hand locks is wicked. I get that there are different definitions. I respect your definition and that truly is a crazy spec for it to be USDM! But to each there own, this still a poverty pack in my book. I appreciate you linking the hand windows, never seen that!

I have seen others and just going by what I have learned hear.

I had a UN badged HZJ80 poverty pack. While it's not US spec, you might find a couple part numbers along the way that could help you.

As far as headlights go, I'm running Holley Retrobright quads on my current HDJ80 and LOVE them. I highly recommend them - best 4x6 LED I have found out of 4 builds.

Looking forward to your LS build!

Nonetheless going to parallel path 2 things through the winter for this while finishing up the last of my welding on the 62. Going to finish stripping down the 6.2 of factory wiring harness, and clean it up real nice. I assume I need to swap the oil pan to say an LS1 pan but need to do some more digging on the 80 series LS swap laws. Then join the 4l80 and the 6.2. Hoping this year again advanced adapters does 10% off for Black Friday and I will get the adapter at that point. I have a transfercase from a 96 lx450 I parted out a year ago so I am thinking I will use that one as to not tear this rig apart until the swap is ready to drop in. I will be keeping an eye out for a 91-94 80 series to combine with this one and hopefully get my interior swap out of the way, I doubt this beige ever came with a grey interior so maybe I will have to buy 2 more......

I start school again this coming week (yay masters ) and work full-time as an engineer so I will have to stay on the ball schedule-wise to get any progress on both this and the 62.. but finally being able to add the poverty pack to my little collection (currently at 5 cruisers :bang:) has rekindled the wanting to work in the shop.. Along with realizing I can swap axles and run 15's on my 62AND get better axles on this poverty pack has been huge for my mental gymnastics of needing to run 15's on the 62.

Oh man! The Holley Retrobrights are crazy from what I hear! I was going to put them on my 62 but the way my bank account works I ended up going with Scheinwerfer Toyota Land Cruiser FJ-62 E Prüfzeichen FJ 62 FJ62 Umrüstung US EU | eBay - https://www.ebay.com/itm/154454057353 these and running 100 watt Hella bulbs in them. They still have the glass lens and were much more affordable. I wish I could afford the Retrobrights! Maybe one day. I will def use your vin info on megazip to look at options I really appreciate it!
