Yes it's misleading unless you give me credit for having a turbo sitting on the shelf. The grill badge was available from Cruiserdan and at his advanced age I thought it prudent to go ahead and get it. The pyrometer and boost gauge is installed and somewhat functional. (One less thing to do when the turbo project starts)
Oh lawrd. I've got a PZ, I will likely be hitting you up tons in the future if you don't provide in depth coverage of this.

Divemedic, are you still in Japan? Just go get yourself a 1HZ or a 1HDT. It should bolt right in! Boom that PZJ is now a HZJ!

The process demonstrates that when it comes to turbo's, one size doesn't fit all. Rob is communicating with the Garrett factory rep to make sure the turbo is a perfect match for the 1HZ. The representative was asking about engine size, transmission shift points, normal operating RPM's, my driving style, etc., etc.

I thought you were going to run without a turbo for the first year? Is that timeline moving up?

You mentioned photos were being uploaded today. I am waiting..........
Actually, it's probably better for me if you don't post anymore photos, I have spent a small fortune in the last week on parts and I am blaming you. Are you going to make it to Cruise Moab? Cruise Moab - Toyota 4x4 event in Moab, UT
It might get dirty;)

The original plan was to run the engine normally aspirated for approximately 4-5 months to gauge the overall health of the engine. That timeframe will most likely be cut in half.
The photos should be on 'MUD tonight or tomorrow.
Between work and other obligations, I'll only be able to attend local events and of course the September 70 Series gathering in Tennessee. :)

... "It might get dirty"

I drove it on a dirt road and wet grass this morning, what more do you want?

Well, maybe...... :)
Well, we'll show you!

Weather has cleared and we have some photos for you. Below, you will see some general exterior glamor shops. You can also see a slide show with some process shots highlighting some of the components and accessories.
The 77 Series wouldn't be sitting in the garage without Steve Jackson and Land Cruiser Direct. He was patient enough to allow me to pester him on a regular basis while I searched for the perfect Cruiser.
The big shout-out goes to Rob Smith of Rob Smith Fabrications. Rob runs a tiny shop, which doesn't advertise and doesn't have a web site but yet deserves a level of appreciation I can't really express. Virtually every innovative design / fabrication on the 77 Series is a result of his talents. I mentioned I would like a roof rack, I get a roof rack. Same with a custom rear bumper. (One with actual structural integrity). From the total LED conversion (inside and out) to the modified snorkel to accommodate the fender mounted mirrors I insisted on, Rob came through. I wanted a "period radio", Rob found one. I mentioned how cool it would be to have a under-hood lighting system and a few days later it's installed. I could go on and on but I'm sure you get the idea.

Other folks who supplied parts and advice are as follows:
- Ward Harris (Cruiser Brothers & Terrain Tamer),
- Onur Azeri (Land Cruiser Parts & Consulting),
- Dan Busey (aka Cruiserdan),
- Kurt (Cruiser Outfitters) and
- Countless members of the Mud/Cruiser Community who contributed Tech, Chat, Moral Support and Affectionate Abuse - kind of like an old-fashioned barn raising
While everyone played a role in the project, Ward Harris (Cruiser Brothers & Terrain Tamer) deserves special recognition. He went WAY BEYOND what would have been expected to help us source the appropriate Terrain Tamer suspension for the Cruiser as well as additional accessories.

I hope you enjoy the photos and again thanks to everyone who make this project possible.

We gotta keep the pressure on Charles or he will rest on his laurels. He still needs turbo, IC, storage and weapons.

Charles I seriously think it would be worth going the factory or gturbo route. The fit and finish is worth your while. Not to mention the performance.
I would not bet against Rob's fit and finish, or performance for that matter :)

I stand corrected.

That half-baked attempt needs a ring-mount M2 Browning on the roof before I will be able to consider it for "Cruiser of the Year". :flipoff2:
