Let us get the 70/71/73/74 version figured out. I do not know to what extent the 75, 77 and other variants differ.

If you spend enough time on 'MUD you'll get kicked a lot harder. :)

In this pic, the Power Wagon is illuminated only by the reverse lights ....

Glad I could help, Dan. Love PWs - especially the ones that work for a living.

OK Andrew, will try and help salvage this thing with some tech questions (apologies to Charles for the hijack), but first some disclosure:

My 73 is getting a full-on 4x4 Labs, dual-arm, frame-mount bumper/receiver with side horns that will look a lot like the one below - built for Brett (@dieselbigot) - it was the very first 4x4 Labs bumper, done a long time ago. So far back that the shop didn't save the specs but this time around, Luke collected specs from bare frame and designed it in CAD and cut on the plasma table. Took some time but we have been planning this for two years and a day and a half on the ground is a small investment on my part to get an awesome rear bumper, towing, storage system. Given the tight quarters, asymmetrical doors and LHD steering, the swing arms, arm stops, latch and tire location all required review and consideration in designing this model of a proven bumper. My truck will have spare on left side behind driver, with LED reverse lights attached to bottom of bumper.

I am only a Beta customer, trying to get a great bit of kit on my truck. No financial interest in producing or marketing these things. Also I am only marginally qualified to speak to any technical issues. That said, I am happy to share what I know. 4x4 Labs will make these available for appropriate 7X Series in kit and finished forms - once we finish up my truck. As the Guinea Pig, I am happy to channel questions, suggestions to the vendor.

What I don't know (per comments above) is if there are any meaningful differences between the 70-74 short/MWB models and the longer wheelbase 75 and 77 models. Is a 75 (Troopy) or 77 (SUV) any different in body, frame, etc.?

In a 4x4 Labs package, the end product is not just a bumper, but a complete unit with: new rear cross-member, integrated hitch receiver, bumper shell, shackle horns, side guards, dual spindles, etc. Some folks wince at the idea of lopping off the rear cross-member, to be replaced with a more robust component. Lots of options for the swing arms - I am getting a tire carrier and gas can rack. The side horns have Hi Lift jack points. Other options include bike racks, roof ladders, ARB cooler racks, etc.

My frame is shown below during rebuild. There are six cross-members (including transmission mount) when fully assembled. Removing and replacing the rear unit not a big deal. There are also ten body mount bolts which tie to the body tub to further reinforce the package - oh, yeah, the engine becomes another connection between the frame rails when installed. I am not concerned - plenty of meat there. So much that I drove 800 miles from California with the rear cross-piece removed and will drive another 800 miles back to install the bumper next month.

I will end this lengthy hijack and move the topic to a new thread in the 70 Series Forum, but would really appreciate any photos, measurements, etc. if you have a 7X Series looking for an expedition style rear bumper. Another option, of course, is to go OEM style and if that's your objective - Rob Smith is making a very nice bumper replacement :)

Again, apologies, Charles!

Wow, in just two pages we've covered LED backup lights, swing out bumpers, vintage Dodge trucks covered with snow, vintage Dodge trucks in snow but not covered with snow, 75 & 77 Series Cruisers, and finally we're back to swing out bumpers. And to think there are those who thought this thread was meaningless.

Now who would have the temerity to take that kind of position? Don't they know who they are dealing with? :moon:

Installing a Safari Snorkel on a 1990 HZJ77 (unique airbox) is a labor intensive endeavor.

Why not an OEM snorkel?
In retrospect, I should have at least considered OEM however it wouldn't have lessened the challenge to attach to that particular airbox. As usual Rob came up with a very creative way to make it work.

I am very pleased with the somewhat modified ARB Brushbar. If I hit something at night it won't be for lack of lighting.
The LED parking lights / turn signals are extremely bright. The engine hadn't been cranked in 2+ months but fired right up and boy is that 1HZ a smooth running diesel.

What's wrong with the air box that did not allow an OEM snorkel to be installed?

Can you take some pictures (farther back) that shows the issue?

There are fitting to basically apply the OEM snorkel unit to most any air box in a 7x series.

Same boat here, i didnt specify oem and got what i got, my error. The holes are different between the two so i cant just swap. sad panda

Disclosure .... With enough patience and talent (Rob fortunately has both in spades) either snorkel (OEM & Safari) can be installed.
The airbox (photo above) is somewhat unique in that the intake runs very close to the fender vs being on the other side of the airbox. This setup requires a VERY tight 180 degree turn to connect the intake to the snorkel and there simply isn't room to do that". Rob basically fabricated the inner workings from scratch to overcome this issue.
Because I don't have access to the OEM snorkel, I can't express an opinion on its ease of installation but I can't see how it
would solve the issue.

I have no issue with the fit and finish of the Safari product however the 1990 HZJ77 is somewhat of a strange duck. My insistence on keeping the fender mounted mirrors only contributed to the installation issues.
