Hi. I'm brand new to the LC world and to this forum. Great forum!!! I've bought an 1990 HDJ81 which should arrive in Vancouver by Christmas, so I am passing the time dreaming of mods I want to do. My question is, I've noticed that the sliders made by Slee and others fit 1993 models and newer. Does anyone know if the Slee units will fit my future rig too? If not, what have people found to work? I really like the low profile look of the Slee. Thanks!

Jon

I imported some Slee sliders for my 1994 HDJ80 a while ago and they went straight on. AFAIK the exhaust parts on HDJ80/81's are the same from 1990-1998 for the front and middle sections so you should be ok.

This was the design for the older petrol 80's that must have had a different CAT configuration? There's no skid / U shaped front leg to go round the CAT's, the front leg just sits a long way back.

Hey Jon

:flipoff2: <-- Newbie salute

By the time you get your rig, I will have figured out a design for sliders to fit on the 80/81. Slee (and other US vendors) make great sliders, but the shipping and brokerage fees make them USD$1000+ by the time they're at your door. I'm hoping to have the sliders available for around CAD$600 including shipping for BC Mudders.

YEAH.... i see a big fat group buy of sliders set up for the Calgary Area.....

WOOO HOOO

Iron Puppy.. are you thinking of a slider with a step out at the rear. Im 100% interested in seeing you progress with this.

Bolt on sliders or weld on sliders?

Plan "A" has been shelved for now, but there is a plan "B" in the works.

There are two issues at the moment:

1) time. Finding the time to do this is a bit of an issue

2) bending. The shop where these could be done does not have a tube bender big enough for the scale of the sliders. At this point we are looking at angle-cut tubing.

The rear kick will be part of the design.

We're looking at a couple of options as far as attachment.

One is a complete bolt-on design, and the other is a design where all the legs are welded, except the one that runs under the cats. That one leg would be a bolt-on so the exhaust could be serviced without having to remove the sliders.

I'm really pushing to get going on this. I wonder... how many sliders could we sell?

I would like some too!! (Calgary)

If not, what have people found to work? I really like the low profile look of the Slee.

Jon, I have the Metal Tech sliders on my 1990 HDJ81, but it was missing the front exhaust (where the FZJ80s have their cat). I think that they're the 95-97 style - check with Mark at Metal Tech to find out for sure. http://metaltech4x4.com/
