Made changes to the cap.
I had it welded instead of fastened.
I grinded the front and rear cross pieces so the 3" angle would sit flush.

Next
Drill and tap front for hinge
Drill and tap rear for latches
Fasten and secure Nidacore

Good on you for taking the plunge!
I've been envisioning ways to get this done for years.

Nice work!

X2 on everything above!

Fantastic work thus far. Looking forward to more :D

Cool ... Did you ever measure like apop top from a vw? Off the top of my head think thier a little narrower, but everything is there, I pulled a old door mobile top out of a junk yard in Cali for 50 bucks all brackets , hardware mounts srews and the bunks... Just a thought?

HudyHue,

I considered using a westfalia style poptop. I've seen how they mount. The roof of the LC would need additional support and braced side to side. My rusted roof gutters didn't help. I know it can be done. I've seen the pic with the young couple next to a brown LC with the westfalia top.

We made what we thought would be comfortable. I went to the edge of the roof line maximizing the sleeping area. My inside ID is 49"x96". Im hoping this platform can be the base of different style tops, flipping up, forward or over like the ARB tents.

This project was fun. I hope to complete soon. I'm working on a variation with a larger area.

MUST have MORE pics! goodjob!

nice. you wanna borrow my old singer sewing machine? keep it up! we're rooting for you.

Can you give up any info on that Nidacore? Like where you sourced it, what are its dimensions and at what cost was it to you? also did you get the prefabbed panel, or did you get the mat and laminate it yourself? Any details regarding this point would be great for future builders...

sweet. the price looks high, but there are alot of things to consider, and it doesn't seem too steep. I have been giving thought to getting the unlaminated mat and laying my own glass down. it seems that for the time it would take to put out a finished sheet plus the input materials would mean I was paying myself about 3 bux an hour. besides bragging rights, it doesn't seem worth it. unless I was going to be making contoured panels:hhmm: sweet.

Glad to see you back at it. Seems like you have a good seamstress as well.
What fabric are you going with?
