Finally time to part with my 1988 bj74. It has been a weekend driver for me and I have kept it in the garage. It has a small leak between the xfer case and transmission. It has a footprint the size of a quarter after it sits for a week. Some rust bubbles appearing around the wheel wells. Transmission shifts well. The previous owner never disconnected the annoying safety beep that goes off when you drive over 62 miles (100kms) per hour so it has not been driven constantly on the freeway over that speed.

Previously serviced at EBI cruisers in B.C.

JDM stainless bull bar has been professionally installed and Hella Fog lights are mounted in the center of the bar.

175k miles
13bt turbo diesel engine
Very new Old Man Emu lift and suspension upgrades (a couple leaf springs still have the original sticker on them)
Very new Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac's with little use
New custom 2 1/2 exhaust sounds wonderful
Safari snorkel with 2 heads (pre cleaner and standard head)
K&N air filter
New front brakes
12-24v converter for the stereo and trailer wiring
Trailer hitch
New windshield
Full synthetic oil change and oil filter less than 200 miles ago

Both the body and frame are in good condition with no fading paint on the hood or the roof. The frame has been undercoated.

Located in Seattle, WA. Title and registration in hand.

$14000

Changed out the fuel filter yesterday. Kind of fun using the hand pump to bleed the line. Thanks to Sheldon at G&S for getting me the filter.

Getting ready to drive across the state next week in the cruiser. Might snag a few wild Turkeys for Thanksgiving while i'm there.

Installed rear seatbelts today. Used a 1/2 in drill and 3/4 hex flange bolts. Torqued them down to spec at 32#.

Most all of the bj74's I have seen have do not have factory seatbelts

It may be an anomaly but my BJ74 actually has factory rear seat belts. :)

Back from a 700 mile road trip to Northeastern Washington. The cruiser performed very well and was fun to drive. Didn't see any wild turkeys during my stay. They must have gone into hiding before Thanksgiving.

The cruiser performed well over the pass and I was able to pass most slower vehicles that were nearing the long summit. I pushed 75 mph for a bit on flat just to see how it handled. Didn't hear any chattering or excess noise and it felt pretty comfortable. The only thing that kept me from keeping up at 75 mph the whole way was the beeping noise that starts at 65 mph. I'm sure it can easily be disabled but i'm sure there is a reason for it.

Overall it was a fun trip and it was a very comfortable ride.

all the BJ74 and the BJ70 that i brought in from Japan didn't have rear seat belts
but
to be fair to Charles i checked the Japan based parts list and they do list the seat belts as an option.
so
there is a good chance Charles does have the unicorn of the 74 series ...

nice ride, looking sharp.

I hope my BJ74 is not known as "that mythical creature that is now extinct." :D
I need it to last a while longer in case something more interesting pops up.

Thanks. My daughter spilled some wheat thin crumbs the back seat so it needs a quick vacuum job. I'm just glad she didn't shove a banana in the new seat belt receptacle as that would be harder to clean.

I think Charles' bj74 is one of the nicest ones around. I talked to the guy who brought it over from Japan to N America and he sounded extremely picky about his imports. Glad the gun metal grey unicorn went to a good home.

Thanks, I did have some help finding it. :D

Unfortunately some folks would rather have a 12mpg 80 Series than something as unique and capable as this 70 Series. ........ Go figure. :)

Steering wheel is on the wrong side for me, otherwise....

I realize that everyone has their personal preferences but if my 15 year old son can learn to drive a RHD vehicle and continue to drive it until he left for college it can't be to hard. :)
I am currently own my 9th RHD vehicle and with the exception of my local Dairy Queen drive through ( I like their chocolate dipped ones ) I don't see the issue.

It's hard to teach an old dog new tricks....

Set I my ways, but I know not all are. For those that aren't, this is a good deal.
