Finally time to part with my 1988 bj74. It has been a weekend driver for me and I have kept it in the garage. It has a small leak between the xfer case and transmission. It has a footprint the size of a quarter after it sits for a week. Some rust bubbles appearing around the wheel wells. Transmission shifts well. The previous owner never disconnected the annoying safety beep that goes off when you drive over 62 miles (100kms) per hour so it has not been driven constantly on the freeway over that speed.

Previously serviced at EBI cruisers in B.C.

JDM stainless bull bar has been professionally installed and Hella Fog lights are mounted in the center of the bar.

175k miles
13bt turbo diesel engine
Very new Old Man Emu lift and suspension upgrades (a couple leaf springs still have the original sticker on them)
Very new Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac's with little use
New custom 2 1/2 exhaust sounds wonderful
Safari snorkel with 2 heads (pre cleaner and standard head)
K&N air filter
New front brakes
12-24v converter for the stereo and trailer wiring
Trailer hitch
New windshield
Full synthetic oil change and oil filter less than 200 miles ago

love the Sami, how much?
of course i can't get that into Canada with the "no lift" laws at registration but damn cool.

as for "anything negative" question, yes there is .... people staring at you while driving or parked. people taking your time with their questions about it. people's closed mind opinions on how "dangerous" RHD vehicles are and how they should not be allowed on the roads.
add a transmission cooler and a tranny temp gauge and it should be a bullet proof rig.

<i see you like Behemoths BJ74 ...>

I have a 1987 BJ74 ( RHD - JDM ) that is registered in the State of Georgia. If I can help answer any questions, drop me a P.M.

Wayne, so the t-case gears are lower with the auto? I wonder why? So with the auto it should have a pretty good low range.

Ok, for all you who already own one of these, is there ANYTHING negative about owning this truck???

For example, how do I insure this vehice. The agent isnt going to be able to FIND it in her listing of Toyota vehicles.......

Hi,

We own and have registered and insured RHD Australian vehicles in Oregon and Washington since 2001. Washington is really easy as long as all your paperwork is in order which it will be otherwise it won't get into the country.

From memory we have about 12 RHD Australian cars titled, registered and insured in WA right now.

Cheers

Wayne, can you suggest a specific transmisson cooler? What trannies are in these trucks?

the tranny is the old 7 series, the true gas guzzler.
Romey had found a good aftermarket cooler, maybe shoot him an email.
just tell the insurance you are registering a Land Cruiser ... no?

here, i pulled up the specs and made a folder of all the info i found about the MWB and submitted that with an appraisal. this educated them as to what they were insuring and the appraisal takes away the guess work on value. the easier you make it for your agent the more they want to help. remember, desk jockies usually will take the easier route. if it is easier for them to tell you to bugger off than do the work ... most will. make their job easy and even lazy people will want to help.

I took an appraisal letter to my insurance company and the BJ74 was insured within minutes. RHD was not an issue. I have also installed an aux transmission cooler on my Cruiser. :)

David, can I come look at the truck saturday?

Anyone know the gear ratios of that auto transmission? I need them to figure out what to gear the ring and pinions
to after the spring over and 37" tires. Thanks.

With respect to Peter, this is what Ive always wanted.
BJ74 on 37's. Or so.

I was able to insure my HZJ75 with a short phone call to USAA here in WA.

RHD is no big deal, in fact it was a lot of fun.

I had the pleasure of talking to David about this truck, and if things hadn't come up I would have grabbed this weeks ago.

Someone is going to be very happy with this rig.

Well, that would be me then. I live in Cle Elum. My back door are forest roads to the Tanem and the Naches. Im going to look at it on Saturday, and Im bringing a trailer to haul her home with. LOL.

Bump.

This cruiser is still on the market. Potential buyer had to leave town before he could take a look at it.

Two cruisers are better than one... I'll post some family photos tomorrow after I register and pick up new plates.

soooo, more info on the sami please.

Need to check the snow level. Might have to take a couple test runs in the foothills soon with the two cruisers.

I talked to John at ATEB this weekend about the lifespan of 13bt's if people are concerned about he kms's on this cruiser. He is from Malaysia and said he as seen 13bt's with as high at 700,000 kms out there.

curious, did you build it?
if so, REALLY nice job. i love how clean the engine bay is with all the extras.
amazing job.
congrats

More important.....How much? Seems I always love everybody else's rig. I haven't learned yet that wanting is more powerful then having.

Sorry for hijacking YB's thread. Wayne, I did the work with a couple other guys. Thank you.

As far as selling it, hell Id have NO idea what to ask for it. At the moment Im deciding on a VolksWagen TDI installation.
