Going down memory lane. My dad and I in front of my 40. Pops is terminally ill at the moment and I’m spending some time with him.

Fantastic photo. Sorry to hear about your father... looks like you've got solid memories stored up for the future.

Thank you. I have my dad to thank for my love of off road and cruisers. They took us all over growing up.

This one came at us really quick and it’s been a tough 6 months, but these last few days have been brutal.

lots of stories and memories. Even asking about my goofy wrong side of the road rig.

He was just telling me about our trips from Dodge City Kansas to Ouray, Co. mid 70s FJ40 towing a popup trailer. Wheeling all over and driving back.

said after long drives we would have to pull the spark plugs and change them Becuase it was burning so much oil. Apparently the rings were bad, someone apparently broke some rings before they bought it. Still worked that 40 over tons of miles and wheeling the whole way.

So sorry to hear about your Dad.
I am glad that you are getting some time to visit with him and go through some memories...

RIP Pops.

The pain is gone for you. Thank you for instilling my love of off-roading, cussing working on vehicles and road trips. I was angry when I was really young and all the other kids were playing and you made me stay and hand wrenches and watch/help. Methods may have been crude and I knew more curse words than most sailors by age 10, but you did teach me a ton and I'm thankful for that. Whether it was a snowmobile, truck or building additions on the house you definitely gave taught me a lot of what to do and NOT to do  You will be missed.

Sorry for your loss. Your words give a good view of your father's legacy. He ran the race well.

I know I will be a complete mess if my Dad goes before me...

Not sure if you ever saw the movie Smoke Signals? There is a part at the end that has stuck with me for a long time. It made me think - a lot.

How Do We Forgive Our Fathers? by Dick Lourie

How do we forgive our Fathers?
Maybe in a dream
Do we forgive our Fathers for leaving us too often or forever
when we were little?

Maybe for scaring us with unexpected rage
or making us nervous
because there never seemed to be any rage there at all.

Do we forgive our Fathers for marrying or not marrying our Mothers?
For Divorcing or not divorcing our Mothers?

And shall we forgive them for their excesses of warmth or coldness?
Shall we forgive them for pushing or leaning
for shutting doors
for speaking through walls
or never speaking
or never being silent?

Do we forgive our Fathers in our age or in theirs
or their deaths
saying it to them or not saying it?

If we forgive our Fathers what is left?
