Co-worker: "Oh you are here today, I didn't see your Jeep outside"

I just got the 3B turbo kit (sans exhaust manifold) from @Diesel42 and can't wait to swap it in! Price a bit steep but seems convenient. Turbo mapped for 3B/13BT and adapter plate, lines, etc. My poor ol CT26 is whistling and spitting oil into my intake. Needs to get swapped very soon. Hoping for max PSI around 13-14 but much quicker spool up to be on boost sooner. Not sure about your snorkel retarding the boost... maybe something about positive/negative pressure? IDK

I'm surprised you went with his kit over just rebuilding/upgrading your CT26. No offense to Diesel42 at all, I think that kit is great.

A rebuild on the stock CT26 is $400~$500.
A mamba tek or kinugawa "built" turbo is $850ish
For ~$2000 you can get a top of the line G-turbo vortex blue wheel build

That garret will definitely be a better match and newer tech, so maybe thats why you went that route?

What is the price for the kit minus the intake? You can share via private message if you don't want to post.

I know a newer turbo definitely benefits the the 13BT. Once I try the "more air" mod on the air cleaner I will see how the turbo responds. I still plan on upgrading to a better sized turbo for less lag.

Have you considered the '@snorkelupgrade' from instagram who stalks me after looking 1 time, @FJBen ? Curious if it'd be less restrictive on the intake end.

I think we need to see what turbo @mcguirejohnson put on the @Laughingjackal 60 w/ Isuzu 4BDT1. I drove that last weekend and she hit 15 psi quickly...

I know when I open the snorkel/airbox up I can easily get over 14psi. That said, the CT26 is wrong sized for the 13BT which would explain a lot. It's very laggy.

Definitely would like to see what turbo he is running.

I can’t wait for my TD04 to be done, all this turbo talk has me excited 🥵🥵

What mod are you planning to increase airflow?

My reasoning with the kit was mostly based off an inherent need to get it done, and done quickly. I am still DDing my 73 for the foreseeable future and I need to keep that thing on the road, so a rebuild isn't ideal.

An hour long phone call with the purveyor definitely got me sold due to the backstory behind the engineering. His machine shop produces the (ported) adapter plate and like I said the turbo map is matched to the 3B block off the shelf. I was told the difference in compression ratios won't matter.

The GT2052 uses a journal bearing so maybe it's not the ~best~ option compared to some other stuff. The kit is intended for 3B users so it comes with silicon fittings, a crossover pipe, as well as braided SS oil lines with AN fittings. Definitely going to be some work with adapting the oil lines and blocking off the H20 lines as well.

I think in the end I was willing to pay more for the consolidated convenience of the thing and knowing that it'll bolt on out of the box. If I'm the fool then consider me as falling on the knife for the rest of the 13BT community.

@mcguirejohnson went with the Garrett GT2252. I'm loving it.

I'm sure a new modern turbo would really wake up a 13BT. You can hear in my video just how slow and laggy the CT26 is.

I think I would need an adapter to mount the exhaust, plus a new downpipe, new oil lines as well. I'd love to stay with the CT26/upgraded just because it's factory and mounts right up, but by the time you upgrade that cost, you could have a much nicer, newer turbo for less money I'd imagine. Someone would want to buy my recently rebuilt CT26 I bet.

I will be installing a garrett 22x turbo on my 12ht at some point. Far superior to the CT26 turbos IMO. I pushed my CT to the limits last summer (14-17psi) and ended up smoking it on the way back from SAS in Ouray. One was designed in the 80s, the other in the 2000s... Shawn's rig has the right amount of pep, still going to see if I can get a little more fuel to it by tweaking the pump timing.
