Hi guys coverted over from jeeps and building my first 1st gen runner. so bear with me, my truck according to vin decoder is a delux, pretty basic, but has A/C. I did not know these things came without power steering. There is a box but no tubes, pully, pump ect. my question is can I just find a donor truck and bolt it up? lot of fab? off the shelf kit avalible?

ps also doing a sas, not sure if this will make a diff.

thanks

I didn't know they came that way either. Most be a totally stripped model, then dealer-installed AC.

Shouldn't be too hard to install. There's brackets on the engine, pump, hoses, reservoir, and you'll need a new steering box.

No it's possible it was a nonpower steering truck from the factory. I had a 100% stock 88 toy with manual steering. It did have EFI (they all did in 88) though;p.

Sounds convincing enough... Any chance you still have the VIN for that 88 around?

Truck. OP said 4Runner.

I'm a gamblin' man and I'm gonna say it was like that from the factory.

I'm assuming this rig is without a power steering pump? If so, it would only have the dimples stamped on the drivers side inner wheel well (where the pump is mounted from the factory on BOTH pickup AND 4Runner of this generation), and no holes punched through. My current 85 with manual steering does as well as the 88 I previously owned. I can get you pics of the 85 if you want.

I don't think I have a VIN for that 88 any longer. I sold it a few years back.

You could be correct but it would be the first 4Runner that I ever heard of without power steering.

My '86 didn't come w/ PS either. Bought a complete system and bolted it up.:steer::D

86 truck or 4Runner?
