Automatic Transmission Gurus .........(BJ74)
My shifter has some play in it and has a tendency to rattle somewhat at highway speeds. My question, is there any type of adjustment that will allow me to tighten up the shifter handle?
Thanks

It it is like an FJ62 there are a couple nynon bushings at the pivot-end of the lever. When they wear the lever rattles. I'll look in the book.

Yup.

90385-16008 x2.

That is a likely cause.

Dan, You know I don't understand big words so please post photos. :)

Are those items something only a super parts guy like you or Onur would have access to or is it a run of the mill part available from my local Toyota guy?

Any dealer can obtain them.

There are 6 bushings in the shifting system. You might want to change all of them. There are 2 at the base of the shift lever and two brass ones that fit inside two rubber ones that are in the linkage from the tranny to the shift lever. Since you have to take the system apart to install the ones in the shift lever, you might as well change the other four. It will likely make a big difference. I'm fairly certain I obtained all the parts at the local dealer. They were all cheap.
Good luck!

or
just learn to live with it ...
think of your good old Rover days
I had all but forgotten about my Rover days ( and LJ78 days ) and then you come along and remind me. :)

It may take a while to go from 0 to 60 in my 2H powered Cruiser but I can now go from 60 to 0 in a hurry. :)

Much larger brake master cylinder + compensator.
Still some fine tuning to do but approximately 30% of the braking authority is going to the rear drum brakes and 70% going to the front disk.

Whats the bore on that cylinder? And was it rear disk? Good option instead of 80 series. What is the compensator part, the prop valve? Or another widget

I'm currently away from home until Tuesday night and don't remember the exact bore but suffice to say its much larger than the original. ( I can get the numbers when I get home if you like )
Drums rear ..... Disk front.
It a proportioning value ( I had a hard enough time remembering how to spell compensator )

Im in your neck of the woods on the alabama gulf fishing anyway. Just hadnt seen the fjcruiser option used. Figured most new toyotas had a 2 bolt master.

A friend had already done the same mod on a HJ47 so we knew the parts were compatible and the results would be suitable.

Plan to do the same modification on my BJ74 in the next couple of weeks.
