So a few things got done while I had the center piece "semi-out".
I installed a simple USB-B and USB-C charging port. I wanted one without any LED indicators or and lights at all. Plain and simple to match the simplicity of the 40. This piece is made of aluminum and seems to match the style very well (installed below cigarette lighter). I made a small sub-harness to wire these and be able to easily remove it if needed.
I wanted to use factory switches to trigger the ARB compressor for the lockers, and also for the lockers themselves. Ofer @ofer bruhis donated a factory pull-type switch to trigger the ARB compressor (the FAN PULL switch on the upper left), so went ahead and installed that:

Also, bought the "correct" knob for the pull switch from Red Line Land Cruisers, only to find that the threads are different than the ones on the factory Fan switch
. Will have to address that later. Kudos to Red Line Land Cruisers for making these for us.

Finally, for those using a VDO EGT gauge, when you buy the gauge, it doesn't come with instructions. I found them online and put them here to share. One of the key things is to "NOT CUT THE SENDER WIRE" as indicated below:

Now onto the locker switch itself.
Again, I wanted something clean and factory looking. I decided to use an early metal dash-type 70-series locker pod and switch (same as the 80-series locker dial switch) to trigger the lockers. I had to move over the hand-throttle cable but I think it looks like it belongs there. I thought about painting the pod black, but, my door cards are gray, my factory floor mat is gray, and my seats are gray, so gray didn't look too out of place.

And then with the hand-throttle cable reinstalled using the one of the bolts that holds the center piece.
(The locker switch is not completely pushed in as I have yet to run all the wires, but it is getting there).
All in all I am really happy with how the dash is turning up, and the best of it all is that I didn't have to drill a single hole to make this happen. A win in my book.

And installed a couple of cool decals on the truck.
One of them is a NISSAN locker warning decal. I think it fits well, minus the language about the ABS not working
The second one I saw on another 40-series a long time ago and then I found it on Amazon. I had one of these on my HDJ80 and it cracked me up every time I read it.
So decided to put one on the 40 as well:

Hey Alberto. Probably don't remember me, I bought the 3B/5 speed out of your 70 series back in 2015/2016. My project stalled out with other house projects and work. Recently, I picked up a 1984 BJ-42 that has a cracked head; however, your old engine combo will be going into this instead of my '71 diesel conversion project. I'm in the process of pulling the engine and doing a little bit of work/cleaning in the engine bay before dropping in the new 3B. I ran across this thread and you have given me lots of ideas. I am going to start a thread and document my progress as motivation to get it on the road so I can enjoy this beast. I have to go back thru your old 70 series thread to look up the turbo instrumentation that you had on the old engine so I can start sourcing it. Your old 3B has been inside my shop all these years but I am wondering what I should do before I start cranking it over. At the very least, probably some Marvels Mystery oil in the cylinders and definitely an oil/filter change. Sorry for hijacking your thread...
