I have a buddy @Dumpolina that let me drive his crawler one time and it got me inspired to build my “Climbintime”!
He has a friend that’s into the hard core rock crawlin scene in NM that he suggested I speak with about ideas and solutions, maybe parts.

So I contacted “Mike” and sent him a picture of my 83’and he said he built a truck like mine a while back and may have owned my truck at one time. It sat for years so who knows?

Today I get a text that says “I found your truck” with this picture!

It’s very cool to learn more about the history of this charming little pickup!

It’s been on the back burner for a while now, i hiked NM CDT, I rebuilt one of the transfer cases, need to rebuild the other one and install the dual adapter. Waiting for back order Marlin crawler to send me one more built diff. With Yukon locker and 5.29 Gears, I got the front hi pinion allready. I’m working on our 80 for SAS9 right now. Always something with this group of rigs!

Okay!… it’s been a minute or two.
Had a successful road trip to SAS9 in Ouray
Pulling an M416 trailer with our 94’ FZJ80
We got a year ago, so lots of time and work had gone into “BIG Betty”
The factory lockers wouldn’t engage so I climbed the “wall” in Poughkeepsie with open diffs. Not hard with the right line.

Later at camp, we had the honor of having @cruiserdan as a neighbor and I had just the question for him.
He had me jump in the new to me 80, start it and engage the rear locker switch first, the light flashes until engaged, then turning the steering wheel inch forward slowly as vehicle turns and click, solid locker light. Then same with rear. I was excited to learn there was nothing I had to fix! Thanks Dan! The owners manual says back and forward to engage then for easy disengagement turn steering wheel.

Now back to the Star of our show…
Sweet Clementine, bop bop bah!

Back in April 24’ the High Desert Cruisers of NM @Tank5 was dialing in his homebuilt all Toyota UZJ45 the “Milk truck”and ready for a longer trip up to Lockhart Basin.

The guys invited me along so I had a few things to do with Clementine!

First up was to remove the bed and then replace body mounts with some fancy energy suspension poly mounts, the originals were toasted!
IMG_2376.webp

Then I welded on some marlin crawler sliders I got on sale for cheap. Tucked em close as I could. Lots of frame cleanup while the bed was off, lots of rusty scale was scraped, vacuumed and magnetically removed from inside the frame rails! Ugh! No holes, still solid on outside of the frame.

Now the body and bed lines up nice and straight !

I installed sound deadening and a vinyl floor kit. I placed it in the sun until it got flexible but it kept stiffening up while installing. I got short changed on the corners under dashboard, it just didn’t have enough and I failed to check measurements before cutting into it, lesson learned. The tan vinyl matches interior and “patina” nice though.

Headed to Moab, I got a head start on the group so I could take my time with this 22R, 33s and 4.10 gearing. “Slowly butt Shirley Clementine!”

The group caught me around Monticello,
Pappy in front in his well traveled 4runner.

I had a friggen blast! Little Clementine did awesome! At one point we pulled over and I noticed a small puncture in my tire, I pulled out my tire plug kit and in a few minutes had plugged the hole and @alia176 hands me an air hose to adjust pressure and before anyone noticed we had her fixed up dandy!
