Not a bad deal at all.

PS finished - hopefully.

Got the back end mocked up today. I think the shackle is too vertical, but I'm not sure how much it will change with the bed on the frame. It goes vertical with me (~200lbs) sitting on the rear of the frame. TG also says the springs will settle some. Thoughts?

I've also read they'll settle but don't think enough to get the desired angle from that location. I'd move it forward so you get ~15* or so, hopefully they end up about right after that.

Well it has been a productive weekend. Everything's done (minus a couple of minor items) and almost ready for its maiden voyage. Just waiting on paint to dry so that I can get the fuel tank bolted back up and driveshafts on.

Moved the shackle hangers up about an inch for a much more acceptable angle:

And my OCD got the best of me:

s***e ain't cheap but it seems like a really good product.

Should be pulling it out of the garage this evening assuming I can get the brakes bled and the fuel in the tank is still good.

Well of all things - my last step and hit a road bump. Both bleeders on my front calipers are seized and I rounded off the hex portion. Hopefully just a minor set back.

Vice grips. I did the same thing to my brand new calipers on my 4Runner. Which reminds me I need to get some new ones. Looking forward to seeing it all finished up.

I tried vice grips a couple of times but got frustrated and quit. I'll try again tomorrow with some more energy.

@jynx Been watching your new thread and I was a little disappointed you backed off on the build but completely understand after this fiasco.

Lol, on the vice grips I chomped down on them soo hard it has teeth marks on it now. Liberal applications of pb blaster or WD40 rust formula over a couple days will help too.

On the new ride, don't be too disappointed, the deuce will be built mildly and used as a third vehicle as soon as I get the transmission sorted. The real fun will start when I get rolling on Bruce (my white 91). Most of the stuff on the original post will be happening, just on a different VIN number :smokin:

Got the brakes bled tonight - still couldn't get the drivers side but enlisted some help and bled through the hard line. Everything's buttoned up and just waiting on the rain to let up prior to pulling her out.

As expected, don't think this is going to work:

And pretty sure I'm going to have to get some longer shackles for the front. It's a little low compared to the rear anyway. Pics of it rolling to come tomorrow.

Couldn't resist this morning before work.

Drove around the 'hood and everything seems in order. Only got to about 25mph so hopefully high speed doesn't yield death wobble. No leaks and my favorite part may be the power steering.

haha, I've done that before, Looks good.

Yup, ya need some elevation in the front fo sho. We extended John's front shackles for the very same reason as your pic above so that should kill 2 birds.

Got everything put back together - now it's time to start working out the kinks. Good thing is I've had it up to ~ 60 mph with no death wobble or steering issues - this was my biggest concern.

So, items to be addressed:
1. Shackles - front and rear (as you'll see below and above shackles do not provide enough travel to keep up with the springs)
2. Drive shaft - sent off today for lengthening
3. Shocks - need to get shackles ironed out as I'm only getting about 6-7" of travel at the shock mounts between compression and extension. I was hoping for more so hopefully the shackles will help with this.

Now for everyone's favorite part (had a hard time flexing it completely due to only having 1-wheel drive):

Parts to finish the front came in today. Should be able to measure for shocks once I get these on. Thinking about changing my onboard air options. Can't decide if I should go custom or buy a shiny new compressor. All I know is that stupid little ARB compressor is a goner.

As usual, I had high expectations of cheaping out, but I couldn't get past the reviews of the cheap white shocks in comparison to the shiny silver ones (it didn't help that 4WP was running a deal on shocks).

In my researching process, I did drum up some information that may be interesting/useful to others:
***Caveat - this information was provided directly from Bilstein and may only be pertinent to their 5100/5125 shock series***

'79-85 stock pickup shock valving = Front - 196/66, Rear - 223/124
For Bilstein Part #24-185752 which is specified for '86-'95 pickups rear shocks with 3" lift, valving = 155/95

Given that my shock geometry differed from that of the "vehicle specific" shock categories, I ended up going with the following shock choice:

Front- Bilstein 33-185569, 12" shock, ext length = 29.7", comp length = 17.91", valving = 255/70
Rear- Bilstein 33-214672, 10" shock, ext length = 25.0", comp length = 15.41", valving = 201/87

After saying all of this, I have no feedback on performance. Me and some buddies are going to sweat our ballz off on Satuday at DT and test them out though.

A couple of shots from DT a couple of weeks ago. Con'ed a couple of buddies to tag along. One brought a couple year old stockish-Tundra and proceeded to add some body damage but he might have caught the bug.

I'd like to get out in some rocks to see how the suspension performs as DT doesn't have a lot to offer.

And the boys who were troopers in the heat (only 1 of which is mine).
