Shane,

Did you paint the covers over the seat mechanism or replace them with new? I tried painting mine with duplicolor and the color looks good, but it doesn't have the "sheen" of the OEM part...kind of a matte finish.

Incredible job! (as always)

Wow some one noticed..... If you also note my heaters that I restore, the tops and registers are the same color. I found a company that paints the flat screen housings. When they are released from the molds they have tiny spider webs. this company sprays them and gives them that cool finish. It is a 2 part epoxy that is baked on.

OK, so I'm anal retentive...:o

I thought about trying to find a clear coat to add some luster to the color, but I was afraid that it might react with the duplicolor and be a big mess, so I've just left it alone for now. I've got much bigger problems with my rig before I need to start worrying about details like that. But I DO think about them.

Thanks for the info!

Love that plate! That is how we roll in Nevada.

Oh man....! wow! You are a king of restoration!! Continue your good job!

If that were my truck, I would freak out when the first dust specs settled upon it.

What a beautiful truck!!!!!!!

Here are some pics from last week. Everything else is minor and cant be seen.

So I am recovering from going to ER last night for the worst kidney infection EVER! got discharged at 2am and at work at 7.......... am I stupid or what?

I can wait to get reply emails from the babbling ones I wrote last night from my iPhone from room 17 at Willamette Falls hospital. As I was sooooooooooo high on Vicoden

So I am a tad OCD and very anal, so if you think some of my procedures are over the top then putting nylon washers under bolts is out of line??

The hook is new as the originals are always worn so it was the smart choice.

FYI the bolts through the latch assembly are NO LONGER and they are a standard bolt......only place to get them is SOR

Spring is new and bracket is restored..

That is NOT clear coat runs, it is Vaseline for assembly.

Also correct rubber pad under hook and latch end.

Truly great now this is a truck that i would consider would be worth 100K not an ICON one.

Awesome work. Yeah, my "restoration" is no where near this.

I think that last pic of the latch shows what keeps happening to me on parts I paint. You get it all assembled and then notice that something didn't get quite enough paint on it. That's the point where I usually start hitting my head against the tool box. No matter how much I spin parts around, I still wind up missing a spot with the gun.

How well does the nylon washer work? Great idea. Does imprint at all on the paint? Have you disassembled any?

Thanks!

I have had the pleasure to run a muck at the TLc ICON facility.......I know it's apples to oranges with what I do and the ICON, but JW skips nothing and it is NOT an FJ40 but an extreme 4x4 that makes even me act like a little kid in his shop.

On that particular part it is a bitch to paint. The one good thing is that is a BC/CC paint.

Keep up the awesome restoration! I really appreciate all the detailed photos. Thanks. Mark:beer:

More coming......

I have never seen anyone do it, I just cringe when I see assembly or dis assembly marks. So I found a manufacture ( makes all my heater resto bits for me) and got what I needed. They work for me in places that either need adjustment like the door hinges or places I DON'T want paint to bolt to paint like the hood hooks. I place a super thin one between the hook and the hood. You cant even tell it's there But I know!!! I also use them all over the hard top peices

I always get excited when I see an update to this build thread. PLEASE keep the photo updates coming. I'm addicted to this project!

More coming

Jump seats are a bitch to assemble after powder coating (sprung legs) You will need to use a adjustable wrench to bend out the female in and bend in the male end and I mean slightly do this. The powder is so thick the leg will not fit or more if not adjusted.

WTF are the footman loops for on the 8/80 and up seats for????
