Hello,

Just wanting to get some ideas on listing prices for this 1980 FJ. I will have it in my possession soon once it arrives from overseas. I have been told as high as $100K, but wanted to get some feedback from the community. Mileage shows less than 1,700 Kilometers. The seats are literally brand new and wrapped in protective paper. Also, where should I list it? Your feedback is much appreciated.

Did you notice the crusty condition of the firewall and the other components under the hood? How about the crumbling floor mat in the driver’s side footwell?
I did notice the crust in the engine compartment but not the floor mat. I was told it was stored for many years and revamped.

is this rig from the mideast?

what would be a good listing price? not anywhere near where you are thinking

need more pics when you actually get it in your possession

no emissions will limit its sale along with no heat

something is behind the left rear tire

so, you've never seen this in person? and are going off what a salesman has told you?

Once you get us better pics we can give you a honest guess. With what we all have seen from these South American cruisers , I’d say you’ll likely not get back what you have into it. One of the main issues is you can’t register it in CA and to bring it into compliance would likely take 10k or more if you count the shops time.

Just going off the engine compartment you can tell it has way more miles than what they told you. The tape on the wiring harness is wrong, the hardware on the radiator hoses is wrong and just the crusty condition under the hood in general tells a big story.

Could just be reflection but it sure looks like worn paint. Takes many miles for a driver's side door to rub paint off where an arm has hung out the window so seeing this on the passenger side says a lot.
This one's been driven. A lot.

Bottom line. You need provenance to like a solid paper trail with low miles examples otherwise it's TMU - Total Mileage Unknown. There are many tell tale signs that the mileage on this truck is much higher. The is very likely a $25K to $30K truck in this market. For some reason, our overseas friends like to wrap everything in plastic thinking it's makes things newer.

Thank you for the good feedback. Most imports don’t get registered in CA, would that bring down the value? What if gets registered in Montana or AZ?

A California buyer would pay less for a rig that they have to illegally register out of state. People do it and get away with it more than they get caught but it is no small thing.

If on the other hand it had the $10-12k CARB approval process completed it would command a premium in-state but no one outside CA would care.

Got it, so in other words, I am limiting my selling chances to outside of CA only. Thank you for the valuable feedback.

not just CA, but most any place that would have emissions check required
