I've emailed this person a few times.
I offered 40K, which I thought was fair. Here is some of our correspondence over eBay:
Me: The top is drilled for the gun rack, does it leak? When was that installed?
Them: The top is not drilled. It is perfect, make an offer.
Me: Is the dash drilled to accept that cb radio, and are the fenders cut under those flares?
Them: No drilling, and the fenders are not cut. Everything is original, lets talk money.
Me: It appears there's quite a bit of rust, some earlier patching, etc.. around the rear tub, can you talk to me about that?
Them:
You obviously don't see this for what it is. Even on it's worst day with some rust as "you describe" not what it is, this is still worth way more than 40k, especially someone like you who has the means to tinker around and do what ever it may need. But it certainly does not have the level of rust as you claim and you have to understand how we ended up with our Uncles truck. We are not FJ40 cruiser people, just want to get some $ out if what we believe and were told is a very very rare truck worth a hell of a lot. The owner of a local Toyota Dealer who heard about our truck when we brought it in to have an extra set of keys made told us he would buy it on the spot for much more than $40k. I won't say how much but he was still looking to steal it too and I can tell you his offer was considerably more than $40k. I'd probably take somewhere in the $50's because I have no doubt that even on this trucks worst day it is worth so much more and is only going up!! You won't find an all original one-owner like this ever and I will bet you that I am 100% right on this. With that said, if you do not want to make an offer I thank you anyway.
Me: As I have been talking to you this whole time about the particulars on the cruiser and what it would need - clearly looking to talk shop with you....your every reply is about money. You are the problem with what is happening to FJ40's. Good luck.
Them: ok, I've heard enough of your subliminal insults. You're obviously an FJ Dreamer and not ready or can't afford to purchase so there is no point in beating this dead horse. Good luck with your dreams - we are done...
