I would go for a 1978 color..

Im guessing I have to take the wood base off before I can install this....

Holy macaroni !!! That's a lot of parts. You can start an ebay store and sell, you'd make good money.

Lot's of Pringles too

I have never seen so many pringles cans in all my life. I just love that all are full of parts and labeled..... I also have more glass and the hard white top that I didn't get pics of. I have decided I am going GREEN (original color) on this one....... Wheels are going to be traded for some factory ones.

LAST DECISION (Diesel or no DIESEL conversion)

ah so you were the one that got all of this. I kept seeing it on craigslist and was very tempted.

Go diesel!

Sent from my iPhone using IH8MUD

I saw it on craigslist for months......... Finally just decided to go look at it and after seeing all them boxes I jumped on it.... Now I know what is/was in each of the boxes.

So if I go diesel, what diesel do I attempt to put in? Should I try to put it in or get someone do quality work like Crusher? ;)

Six months ago I would have laughed at a pile of headache... now I am just jealous.

I like your green decision, but am curious as to why diesel? (whats the benefit/or just something different?)

Congrats on your find... keep us posted.

MPG................. I love the sound, the power, the smell, and the fuel mileage......... I just have to figure out what my motor and tranny is worth especially since the rebuild. I hope I don't regret the diesel decision. Everytime I turn around I think of something different to do or another route to go. I wish my money supply was unlimited and could just mail the thing up to Crusher and let him go to town on it doing whatever he wanted. :( Unfortunately I can't do that......

i like the 2F
i like the 2H
i love the 13BT
but
if i was going to do a swap then i would go with a 1HZ ... mostly just cause.

what you want to think about is parts availability 5 years from now, 10 years from now. you are investing a huge amount of time and a decent amount of cash. the idea of having it parked due to a hard to find part will not be enjoyable.
so
you can go with the 2H but there is nothing being made today by toyota that will be a bolt in replacement in worst case senerio. nice motor but i would pass on it.
the 3B has lots of motors still being produced today that will be close to a bolt in should you ever need to replace it due to what ever.
the 3B and the 2H are very simple to run and maintain. both respond very well to a turbo. both return decent fuel mileage IF the truck is geared properly for the tires you are installing and for the speed you will be driving. your best fuel mileage in a stock BJ40 or HJ60 is 90 k/h (the old double nickel), you want to go faster then your fuel mileage will suffer.
i would strongly suggest a H55F behind either of these engines and depending on the useage then 3.70 with 31s or 4.11 with 33s at 90 k/h and you will have decent fuel mileage ... about half again to double the usual 2F mileage.
to fight the possible parts issue then buy a rebuild kit for which ever engine you are planning to run. there are a couple vendors i RECOMMEND but use who ever you want.
John or Rob at Radd Cruisers, these guys give back to the community with decent deals, but more importantly they participate on Mud.
Steve Tetu is also in BC and runs Extreme Bends. Steve, from what i remember, is a decent guy to deal with, participates in the community and has a good 40 series knowledge.
Spector, he has been around for centuries and if you need a hard to find part then he will probably have it.
water pump, rebuild kit, clutch kit, hose kit would be my suggestions of minimum of parts to stock.

now i am rambling, if you have questions feel free to ask, i will try and help.

hint: don't cut corners at any step of the process. the best you can do will make you happy long after the cost is paid off.

cheers and best of luck in the rebuild/refurbising.

Just a few notes on side.
Diesel is cheaper, at least in majority of the world which America is not counted in (in Europe you pay 25% less for Diesel then Regular Gasoline, in US and Canada it sometimes 5-10% more expensive :( ).
Diesel engine is more economical (less consumption). You can get up to 50% fuel economy on it vs. similar Gasoline engine.
Diesel engines are pretty much simple and easy to maintenance compare to similar generation Gasoline engines.
Diesel engine is not that much affected to water, so it's better adopted for water crossings. Basically you can drive Diesel powered vehicle equipt with Snorkel with flooded engine bay and water level at your mirrors for hundreds of meters or yards.
Diesel engines usually have huge amount of torque available right at the beginning of power band and and have nearly constant level of this huge torque for majority of the band.
All this makes Diesel is as a superior engine for off-road, remote driving and towing.
Downside of Diesel engine is that it doesn't have a lot of power (new generations of modern Diesels now have HP close to Gasoline engines), so if you looking for a "Highway Rocket Car", it's not designed for it.

P.S. I'd love to have D-4D in my Cruiser, but it's way too expensive to convert, so I'm still running 2F.

What should I sell the current rebuilt never ran engine for? Need diesel money. ;)
