Keep in mind, restoring a cruiser is expensive, you can try and do some fab yourself, but you will discover the time it takes to fab nice parts, you could have just bought it. I've learned this many times and continue to do so. You can always send those panels back, I'm sure you will be buying other stuff from them.
That's actually less than what I have in the separate pieces. And still without a fuel tank press.
Landcruiser heaven have a good reputation for fitment and quality?

Years from now, you will look back in hindsight on this 40. The expenses associated with the rebuild will be long forgotten, but your daughter will have the same fond memories that you did with your father.

I suppose this is why these vehicles have soul, and what being a parent is all about.

what's wrong with poly tanks. i have a rear tank from downey that i'm going to use. is that a bad idea?
I'm not sure. I brought it up earlier in this thread and the general consensus is oem. CCOT has a steel reproduction tank I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with.

That's what I've heard. Original oem. However ccot has a reproduction steel tank 16gal. Any word on this?
Do a search on the poly tanks and decide.

I went with the CCOT steel repro tank on Project Pikachu; so far it works great. Looks and feels like OEM.

Another craigslist score. Windshield frame, wiper motor, linkage, wiper arms. 100 bucks.

No kidding the scores you are finding are great. Great story on your family cruiser. I say family because this sounds like it will continue onto the next generation. Technically your other child worked on it through proxy while your wife was helping with the wiring.

Hey guys. Long time no post. I told ya my baby boy would slow things down some. The 40 has sit in the garage with out much change. Just trying to find time to sneak off and piddle is a challenge. However I am beckoning the long days that spring will bring in a few weeks and getting fired back up. The only thing I have really worked on is ordering parts. I decided to replace the quarters after realizing at some point I had backed into a tree and bent the horn on the pass side of the rear sill deforming the pass side rear quarter. It had about an inch of bondo in places. So if I’m gonna replace one why not all right? Todd from real steel hooked me up with two quarters and two rockers. I got a new rear sill and sill cover and main beam from CCOT. Last night I welded up a jig to keep everything square. Starting from the back to the front. More pics to follow.

This is such a sweet story. Wish I had my dad's 1953 Chevy, 1958 Chevy or 1963 Bonneville. Maybe not his 1968 Riviera, 1974 Chevy II or his 198? Caddy. But I did get his 1989 Subaru wagon in 1991. The wife drove it into the ground commuting. Don't won't it back. Memories are worth more than just money. Keep working on this project. Maybe your son can help you finish it and drive your arond in it. Just don't be like Stevie Ray Vaughn's song "Willy the Wimp and his Cadillac Coffin" and get buried in it!
