Wow. That makes me feel very lucky to have my concrete driveway (as the place where I work on my vehicle).

Great work/skills there Mathew!

Wow Mathew you are really chucking a big chunk of change at your truck
well done - keep it up

OK I'm impressed, rebuilding a truck on a tarp and some old tires.

I will stop complaining about my cramped little garage and crappy tools.

This should be an interesting build! :)
And yeah, I will similarly count my blessings on my 2 car garage and stop whining that I don't have a real workshop with overhead cranes and a hoist.

Hey Mathew... great build. I am looking forward to following your progress.

I have been to Kenya several times and I will be there again in October. I don't remember seeing a lot of old landcruisers. Is there a lot there? I think I remember seeing the military use some 70 series trucks but I don't remember seeing a lot of 40 series.

If there are a few around, I may see if I can buy some unobtainable parts there and send them back to the states. I will be in Mombasa Oct 11-19.

Again ... great build.

Kerry

I have owned this truck for about 7 years now and I have not really ever done any major rebuild on it. So I decided I may have a go and come out with something worthwhile. I am now done with the paintwork and glad to report that all parts arrived. I will work to fix them this weekend. Yes, the cat is also excited about the new parts.

I promise to take better pictures.

You are indeed right, there are more 70's than they are 40's given the fact it is quite expensive to maintain them. but yes, you can still find them with a little patience. I can assist you track down specific parts in advance as I also look for mine. I live in Nairobi but would love to arrange that for you.

Welcome, Mathew!

I just subscribed to your fred so I can follow. This will be great fun (and frustration and work and... $$) and definitely worth it. :D

I did a teardown/buildup last year (in Malawi) so if I can be of any help, give a yell.

Dan

Thanks - I will halla.

Got the crank from the engineers the other day but they got the measurement wrong. They did a .25 rather than a .50 so I had to take it back. I get it tomorrow morning so I should start working on the engine in the course of the day.

some of the pictures I took over the weekend.

As you can see, I have had to fabricate my own engine stand. Not soo pretty but it gets the job done.
