Small pieces have been blasted and primed. The windshield took a little coaxing (impact driver kroil and the blue wrench are my new friends). Plans are to take the body back to bare metal.

Merry Christmas to all. Making progress toward stripping back to bare metal. Dash largely done, tranny tunnel and gas tank removed. There was a Bart Simpson T-shirt underneath as a tank pad. Small pieces blasted and primed.

I've never been to AZ but I believe that this cruiser came with 50 pounds of genuine AZ desert sand. Tomorrow I'll try to remove the coating from the top of the tranny- sand mixed with tranny fuid and hard baked.

Looking good... Making progress

Next year you'll be driving it around... That BTW can be anytime from a few days from now till next Christmas .... You got plenty of time lol

Get any presents for the cruiser?

I got zilch :(

Not unless I include the Bart Simpson T shirt that the PO used as a gas tank pad... I began pulling from underneath to gain access to the drain thinking that the PO (for some reason or another) decided to cover the tank drain with fabric. Let's just say that it was the gift that kept on giving(Nothing like pulling from underneath and having Bart smiling down on you). Remember I'm the guy who just wanted to stop the leaks- my alter ego was the guy who wanted a project. My goal is May ( and NO, I didn't forget to include the year). Thanks for the encouragement and Happy New Year!!!

Well after several hours of digging(and pressure washing) I unearthed a transmission

Question: there is a 3 digit/letter code on the drivers side of the tranny -is rid factory or rebuild?

I have seen it on a few transmissions. Here is a pic of the 3-speed out of Gary's '64 FJ45

The 3 Speed is a J30 and the 4 speed is an H42 (in the US market) so more research is needed for the LR2 marking

Lighting was bad (read "operator error") and I couldn't get any pics. I'll post up Wed when I'm back at the shop. Paint color appears similar.
Thanks
frank

I have the same tranny markings in what appears to be similar fonts and color. My guess is factory???

Well the media blaster and painter called yesterday and have openings tomorrow-about two weeks sooner than what they told me last week. Consequently an unexpected push to get it ready to turn over to them.
Small pieces have been blasted and primed-everywhere I look I'm finding parts

For the small stuff I used a blast cabinet and I can get the particulars re the media(sorry but I can't remember the manufacturer or type of abrasive. I'll be back Sat and will post up)
For the body I hired a guy today to blast it with water and glass bead media. Very effective and certainly time saving as opposed to stripping by hand. OnThe last project vehicle I spent well over $100 in removal/stripping supplies for just the bed area alone. I'm sorry I don't have more or better pics but I'll try to get some tomorrow.

We are down to bare metal in most of the areas we wanted. IMHO water/glass bead blasting with a rust inhibitor is a savings in both time and money compared to hand stripping for large projects.
True to her name, LEAKY is drying out today and is looking forward to primer.

The next several days will be devoted to prepping and rattle canning small interior parts.

Leaning toward Dune Beige 416. It is not period correct for the 66 but neither is the 2F, etc.
My last one was a 77 in that paint and it grew on me.

Bretwithonet : the blast cabinet is a little blaster manufactured by blast it all. It is in the background of one of the pics in 18. I'll check tomorrow about the media.it is definitely not the high dollar DuPont stuff.

I am soliciting opinions on tires. I've read and probably need to reread the threads in this section. I'm going to run stock rims with clips which have been powder coated a gloss black and there is no lift. I like the look of NDT's but like the practicality of others. What do you guys think?

The yokohama's were our first choice too. Unfortunately not available here. Surely a very nice looking tire for the early 40. Do they fit your rims? These look a bit wide...

I have 6 clip, riveted stock rims. I am not a tire guy. I like the Yokohamas. Any ideas as to whether this particular Yoko will work with the rims I have?
