RR Qtr work continues

2 hours yesterday straightening what was left of the lower ribbing panel. 5 hours today. Getting the RR qtr back together slowly. I made a die for hammering the ends of the ribs. I forgot to take a picture of it. First attempt at making a rib. Moderate success. Not sure if I will keep the rib but I figure it is good practice. It is probably ok, but I think I can do better. I did not have a lot of time to work on the metal finishing part before I had to leave, but it was not too difficult.

So is your rib end an all hammer affair or do I see a weld off to the edge of the sheet? Either way that first attempt looks very useable - great work!

I first cut a relief slit down the middle of the rib, then hammered it flat. The squared off end itself is mostly all hammered. After hammering the shape I welded it closed. Then hammered more. It will probably work, I am just picky. But the entire truck was hand built so if you look there are tons of variations all over the body.
 
Only the craftsman will know where the "defects" are when all is said and done... everyone else will be dumbstruck by the beauty of the big picture
 
My LV is going to have to wait until I get some stuff done around the house. I was thinking maybe i could just take a few weeks vacation and visit you for a while and learn all these cool tricks. This thread is amaizing and your doing on hell of a job.

Got some good work done this week. I have lost count of the hours. But I think 2 hours Wed and 5 hours on Thurs am. I may have missed a day? Got the RR rib panel welded to the orig. part and fitted to the truck. Then I needed to sand blast before doing any more. Went ahead and cut the LR qtr off and started to diessect the LR qtr so I could sand blast it at the same time. Turns out it will mostly be all new metal so there is not much to blast.

LV sees light of day

Moved on to the LR and cut it off. This is the first time the LV has been in the light of day since I sand blasted it a couple of years ago. Blasted the floor pan shelf also so it is ready for me to now replace the captured nuts for the frame and them the pan can go in. I also blasted the B pillar pockets before covering those up. Sand blasting worked great so now all I have to do is shoot it with Body Wax and it should never rust again.
