Tucker and Zeebra, thanks for the info guys

I'll probably get those side apron holes drilled tonight since I know the dia. for sure on those and the pattern.

The hood I will knock through a couple 1/8" pilot holes in the measuments you gave me. I'm hoping Poser reads this and makes it out back to his stash and gets a dia. of the hole. I know he's got the hoods with no nozzles in them.

Thanks again, Matt

This is one of the old side aprons.

Can someone confirm that this in the hole configuration I want for the older style emblems and dia.?

The hole dia. on the newer aprons was approx. an 1/8". The holes in the older apron off the lv is approx. a 1/4".

Thanks, Matt

Matt, do you have the older emblems? If you like I can trace the pattern in my fender aprons and mail it to you.

I've got the old aprons so I'm good to go. Just bent up, but will work fine for transfering the hole pattern.

Thanks anyway, Matt

Oh, and look what else Santa / UPS man brought tonight.

2 different colors of seat material, door panel material, carpet, carpet heat padding, 2 different colors of #69 thread and 1/2" sew foam.

Mother in law is coming up sometime around x-mas for a weekend or 2.

I am a go on the entire interior :D

Got up at 5:30 am this morning and headed up to the sandblasting place. We had a small change of plans. We were going to go to a place 5 hours south of us. We instead found a place 2 hours north of us in Winnipeg Manitoba, Canada. Last minute change, but we thought it would be a better fit for what we were doing.

Talk to the guy yesterday about my hood. Told him it still had paint on it, but I didn't want it sandblasted. He said they could try the walnut shells or corn husks. He recomended chemically stripping it prior to bringing it up to save some time. So last night I spent 3 hours stripping the paint off the hood. I didn't get any pics last night, but you can see it in the photos from today.

It looks the same in the photos today because they tried Walnut and corn and it didn't do a damm thing :o Didn't take any surface rust off, nothing. I did bring my side aprons and they blasted those, so it wasn't a totally wasted day. Although I could have easily sandblasted those aprons myself with my blaster at home

My neighbor brought his 40 ford cab, hood and doors. I also brought a 1926 model T touring coupe body and doors for my body man buddy. They got that stuff blasted for him, so that was good.

Got home tonight with all that stuff. I had to spend about an hour and go over my hood with the zip wheel to clean it up. Once that was done I sprayed everything we had blasted today with DP epoxy primer. I let my hood and side aprons flash off for about an hour then I sprayed 2 heavy coats of ureathane primer so in a couple days I can start blocking the hood out.

The hood had a couple small dings in it, but I easily got them out with the hammer dolly. I belive the hood will require probably a half dozen coats of primer sanded out and that will be it. Very, very straight hood :)

Anyway, Pics

1 other thing I took a pic when I was up there. Driving past this body shop I noticed his sign...........Thought that was pretty cool :)

The shop had 4 FJ60's parked out front. I swung in to see who had the sickness. One of the shops employees said they were all the owners and he was into Landcruiser.

Unfortunetly he was gone all afternoon and didn't get a chance to talk to him ;p

Little more work tonight. Blocked out the inside and outside of the hood, actually looks pretty good :) Also block sanded the outside of the side aprons.

I also sandblasted the hood catches and hinges this afternoon. Hung everything in the booth again tonight. Epoxy primed the latches and hinges, shot 2 more coats of ureathane primer on the side aprons and hood.

Heading back up to my buddy's tomorrow night for what is going to be the last pass on the body. I will be bringing the hood and aprons up there. The hood may need 1 more pass later on, we'll see.

The hood latches look nice, but what are you going to do about the bumpers for them? I never did find a replacement rubber snubber for my existing, so it was much easier just to buy new ones.

When you're filling in the little holes in the sheet metal, are you using a copper backing? I've heard of doing that to act as a heat sink.

Actually the copper is not as a heat sink but rather as a backing plate for the weld so that it actually stays in the hole. Any dis-similar metal will work. I used 1/4" aluminum when I did the FJ55 two years ago.

Not a lot to report tonight, but more progress. Got up there tonight and boarded down the roof with 180, that will be the last time I sand the roof until paint now. Then it gets wet sanded.

Also blocked out the hood again with 120. Shot a coat of primer on it before I left, but no pics.

Heading back up in the morning. Sand all day and prime for the last time. Assemble Sunday and hopefully drag it home.
