The walnut shells do a good job, I saw a vintage airplane being done with them and it was really nice. There is a local (to me) company who has a truck mounted blaster setup that uses crushed dry ice. It works really well, cools the metal as it goes to reduce warping and evaporates when it has done it's work and only leaves the paint and rust residue to clean up. Brilliant idea, I thought. They do a lot of refinish work in retail stores including food displays in grocery stores.

That sounds really cool, I wonder how much it would cost?

any progress?

Heading back up to my buddy's place for more sanding tomorrow night

I pulled the speedo head and some misc. switches out of the 79 part vehicle tonight though if that counts ;p Trying to stay busy?

Wifes got the camera tonight, but I will post some pics of some ideas I have, see what you guys think.

One idea is to use the coolant and windshield wiper fluid bottles and bracket out of the 79 FJ40. Those who are familiar with 79 FJ40's I'm sure know what I'm talking about. I know they will bolt up to the fender just fine, don't know if they will clear the acc. on the V8 though, I will check this weekend. I did plan on making a battery tray that mounted off the shock tower. If I use this set up it kinda shoots that all to hell though?

The 2nd idea is related to the first, windshield wiper fluid. I plan on using the wiper switch out of the 79, I could operate the fluid motor. Any ideas on hood sprayers? I know the one out of the 79 won't work because it's in the center and the older hood has a seem in it. I suppose I could figure something out, just thought there might be a couple single sprayers I could use on each side of the hood?

Disscuss? :)

You could use about any late model Toyota nozzles. The ones on an 80 have two holes in them and you can "aim" them by sticking a needle in the hole and pivoting the "ball" that the holes are in. I could trace the holes in an 80 hood and fax it to you so you could see the shape required.

I like the idea, now another question if I am understanding this correctly or you understand me correctly :) . I do need or would like to have 2 seperate sprayers. Because of the seamed hood, I would need a sprayer in front of the passenger and driver. If I use 2 of these, I have 4 sprayers, aiming each set of nozzles where I desire? If this is correct, is there enough presure in that pump to handle 4 nozzles, even though there are only 2 nozzles on the pump now?

Just wondering if 4 were hooked up it may be a rather....................limp spray ;) And not reach it's intended target............the window :)

I have a split hood from a '70 or '71 with some nice stock looking jets. One on each half of the hood. Single stream from each nozzle. Maybe that's the solution you're looking for? Of course my brother's '90 BMW 535i has heated nozzles that might fit your climate better too. Maybe another make of vehicle might yield the best solution...

Sounds like exactly what I'm looking for. Are they stock or stock looking? I don't know if that year had that or not?

Thanks, Matt

Headed up to my buddy's place tonight, more fun..........sanding and priming

He was doing a little touch up here and there and I boarded down the roof again and blocked out the interior also. Shot another heavy coat of primer on the inside and the roof before I left tonight.

Plan is to head back up tomorrow morning and block sand the entire vehicle down and another coat of primer. Looking like that will be the same plan for Sunday. He's thinking the next weekend after this we will block it out once carefully and then spray it with a light coat of epoxy primer to seal it up.

More of the same today, took 2 guys 6 hours to board down an entire lv wagon, inside and out, and every door and tailgate  .

Then, sprayed another coat of primer, inside and out, doors and tailgate.

Plan is to head back up tomorrow, sand it down again. Everything tomorrow will be sanded out to 120 and them primed again.

If everything goes as planned next weekend tomorrows primer coat will be sanded out to 220, then to reduced out coats of ureathane primer and 1 light coat of epoxy primer to seal it up..........body work will be basiclly done then.

do you sit in it and pretend like your driving? :D

No, that would take away from valuable sanding time ;)

Dumb question for you Matt. How many coats of primer do you think you will have put on her then sanded back down, Just trying to get idea for my project.

Thanks and keep up the dang fine job your doing.
