I know it doesn't look like I am doing anything, but we did spend another 6 hours and blocked it down again.......

Actually, you can't tell in the pics, but this thing is straight!! Everything today was blocked out to 120 grit. Sprayed another coat of ureathane primer tonight after that. That will sit all week and I will be up there next Friday night again.

Next Friday the plan is to block it all down to 220, that will last into Saturday. Then later on Saturday after that, 2 light coats of ureathane primer reduced out and then 1 light coat of epoxy primer to seal it up. Head back up Sunday, hang all the doors and haul it home. Ready for me to wet sand when I get to that point.

Still have a couple months of fun before the body comes back off again, but looking good I think.

Also, never did make it to that blasting place last week. Before I left I pulled the hood and side aprons, hoping to get down there this week and get that hood and the side aprons blasted and into some epoxy primer.

Need some help please

Need a little help here please. I will post this question here first, but if no answers I will ask it in the 40 section, but I know some here must know this ;)

I believe as discussed earlier the 71 / 72 FJ40 hood had 2 single sprayer nozzles, I need the dimensions to the center of those holes, and size of the hole(s).

2nd question, are those nozzles off those years adjustable or fixed? Can you move the sprayer with a pin like Cruiserdan mentioned?

Thanks for the help, Matt

Dumb question for you Matt. How many coats of primer do you think you will have put on her then sanded back down, Just trying to get idea for my project.

Thanks and keep up the dang fine job your doing.

Not a dumb question, great question.

The time we are done...I would say approx. 9 to 10 coats of ureathane primer will have been sprayed on and sanded down. Some areas, there is no primer left (primer, but right to the edge of the bare metal), others it's probably .040 to .050" thick. End result is extremely straight.

Steve,

The dimensions would be fine. It woud be awesome if you could get them to me by tomorrow sometime? I know a lot to ask, but my neighbor and I are planning on heading down to St. Cloud Wed. morning if it works out. He is having a bunch of stuff walnut or coal flint blasted at this place down there. I was going to tag along and have that hood soda blasted, save me some time from stripping it by hand and they won't warp it up.

Point being, even another hood I still would have to weld holes up where the latches and bumpers were. So, if you or someone else got me the dimensions and dia. of those holes, I have no problem drilling 2 holes in the hood. :) I just want to make sure the holes are the exact size so the nozzles fit when I do find them and they hit the window in the right spot.

Keep in mind I have to work that evening the day you are going to be here ;)

Thanks, Matt

Sorry man, I was not out here earlier today...too many things going on...I was not able to get your dims...

I realize that you are working Friday night.... :)

Trying to get some stuff done, started working on the hood and side aprons.

The hood was from an older FJ40 since the one that was on this lv was bent up really, really bad and full of filler. One of the side aprons that were on it was really bent the other not so bad. Either way I bought a newer style set of ebay a while ago for $20 that were perfectly straight.

Problem with the hood and aprons is that they both had holes where there weren't suppose to be. I had to drill out the spot welds for the windshield catches on the hood, then I had about 14 holes on the hood and 4 on each apron that I had to weld up.

I took my time on the hood, working slowly. Hood never got to hot to touch, so no warping. Ground the welds down, couple minor little dings I had to hammer dolly out, but I now have a perfectly straight lv hood :)

Aprons, welded the 4 - 1/8" holes on each set shut since those holes are for the newer style, have to drill a new set of four holes the right size and in the correct location for the older style emblems.

This is one of the old side aprons.

Can someone confirm that this in the hole configuration I want for the older style emblems and dia.?

The hole dia. on the newer aprons was approx. an 1/8". The holes in the older apron off the lv is approx. a 1/4".

Thanks, Matt

Oh, and look what else Santa / UPS man brought tonight.

2 different colors of seat material, door panel material, carpet, carpet heat padding, 2 different colors of #69 thread and 1/2" sew foam.

Mother in law is coming up sometime around x-mas for a weekend or 2.

I am a go on the entire interior :D

No problem, if you get a chance that would be great. :)

Someone else here still might step up to the plate and post it also.

I am assuming someone has access to a 68 - 9/71 hood? ;p

Thanks, Matt

what color do you reckon' that hood is?

Dark brown on the outside, but might have been sea foam green at one time?

Hopefully it will be bare steel in a couple days and then Epoxy primer grey a few hours later ;p

The hole dia. on the newer aprons was approx. an 1/8". The holes in the older apron off the lv is approx. a 1/4".

The old style holes were app. 1/4" - they have a stud that goes through the fender and bolts flat to the back (instead of stab). Sorry for the blurry pics -

Looks like the correct pattern to me -

Measured my hood last night. Starting from the center of the hood, 12.625" on each side of the center of the hood. Then 6" in from the edge of the hood mark for your holes. I did not remove one of the nozzles as I don't want to break it but the threads on the nozzle measure .220" diameter. I'd guess a 1/4" hole BUT they go through a nylon looking grommet so I can't say for sure that 1/4" is the correct hole size. Maybe someone with a '69-71 hood and no nozzles can get you the right hole size/shape.
