I noticed your post quite some time ago about the airplane accident, well one of the IH8muders has two buddies who died last week in a heli loggin accident, mechanical problems.

Just so happens the friend I sold a BJ74 just stepped out of the chopper and was not longer than a hour when the chopper crashed, damn shame as two young guys with kids died.

Not to put a negative spin on your build, looking good and keep up the good work......

and matt, i'm dissapointed. you should have gotten a toyota sewing machine!

That sucks on the helo accident.......Aviation is a pretty safe / fun job to have or to enjoy as a recreational activity. But, like anything mechanical, something can go wrong. I guess the exception to that is like my buddy, "Heavylift", who is an ih8mudder and posted on this thread also. He's over in Iraq right now flying a real big target, chinook's heli's. He has the enjoyment of people shooting at him and small metal parts going through his turbine engines.

Fortunetly that other airplane accident had somewhat of a better ending, not perfect, but better.

Just an update on those 2 guys:

The passenger of that airplane just got out of the hospital last week after approx. a month's stay in the hospital and 6 major surgery's. I spoke to him last week shortly after he got home, doing ok, he has the right attitude for recovery I won't get into specifics, but he won't be able to walk for another 4 to 5 months, confined to a bed and wheelchair. After that he will begin re-hab and hopefully will be walking for the most part normally in less than a year.

The Pilot got out of the hospital after about 2 and a half weeks after 4 major surgery's. He should be able to start walking in about 3 months. Although his injuries weren't as extensive to his legs and back as the passenger, he still has a long road to full recovery that will take well over a year.

All things considered though, both are so unbelievably lucky to be alive, and they know it.

I dropped off a wanted ad in the local shopper for an industrial sewing machine, just hours before I bought the one I have now. That ad came out in Monday's shopper paper. I've had 8 calls from people who have them and want to get rid of them. Price ranged from $250 to $800 used, all were the same or similiar to what I bought. I guess I'm pretty happy with what I have and the fact that I paid $200

I actually read the instructions last night and dumped in a fresh 2 qts of sewing machine oil I got from the previous owner. I learned how to thread the bobbin and get it set up. I had a rip in my jacket and I used it to sew it up. I might take some pics and post it of my work I think I did a pretty good job for the first time sewing.

Although, the wife, mother in law and grandma are going to be the ones on the assembly line, not me

Hey, I know all you proffesional sewer's looking at this are saying, "that sucks!"

But for a guy who's never sew'd before and with absolutely no help from the wife I thought it was pretty good I even locked my stiches on the ends by sewing in back and forth like the upholstery book said

I think my wife will do better than me though.

Not this weekend, got to work all weekend. Next block sanding schedule is the weekend after this weekend.

I actually just got done spraying a test panel, trying to figure out the silver/grey color on the speedo and glove compartment.

Got this color from autocolorlibrary.com, PPG #33071 - 73 Toyota, warm silver poly. Next to my 65 lv glove box door. Very tough color to spray, tough time getting the metalic to lay down evenly.

Also, I feel your pain on the metallic. Go get a small jamb gun(I got a $65 porter cable one that rocks), they work way better for spraying out the metallic on smaller stuff. Also, work with a bit of extra reducer, seemed to help the flow out when I did that stuff a while back.

I'll try the jamb gun and the reducer also. I'm thinking that color is not going to work. I don't know what vehicle it's supposed to be on, but just doesn't seem grey enough in person for the dash stuff. Going to send the wife over to the auto parts store tomorrow w/ the glove box off the 79 and see if she can match something up by eye.

What color did you use Brett and do you still have a forumla or code?

They do, but the stuff they sell is an acrylic based paint. I want a ureathane based paint.

You may want to wait 'til your turn signals show up. The housings are a grey color you might like.

The wife was hoping to match the speedo head off of the 79 FJ40 I'm parting out. She likes the color and that is the speedo head I am going to be using, it is absolutely perfect. The speedo head that came with the lv was junk. She wants to paint a few other things inside that color to match, including the new IDIDIT steering column, which I also think will look real nice. So that paint on the column has to match the speedo head right next to it.

Maybe it's the same grey on those turn signal housings?

I bought a gallon of some Omni silver, and talked them into some pints of toner to make what I thought was the best match to my 1976 silver. It seems to me that all sorts of changes to the silver tone occured throughout the years, and even the heater in my 1967 LV is distinctly different silver than the glovebox, ashtray, etc.

I had the hardest time finding a silver with small enough metal flake, toning it was simple. I would just get some omni silver, and some black, blue and green toner. I think that is what I ended up using. I used a touch of black toner to darken it, and I think I used so little blue and green that it probably didnt affect anything, but the guy told me he would use those colors as well to make the color I showed him. the blue and green "warm" up the silver according to him, otherwise its almost grey with metal flake.

Probably not until the weekend. Might have a couple this week of the hood getting plastic or walnut shell blasted.

My neighbor is restoring a 40 ford pick up and might be heading down to this place in St. Cloud, MN to get his hood, doors and cab blasted. If he goes I might tag along and get the hood blasted. The plastic or walnut shells don't warp the sheet metal. Save me some time from stripping my hood by hand
