Matt, I don't know for sure if you are still planning on using the 79 seats, but, yesterday, I finished installing new lower foam and the CCOT OEM type covers on a 79, and while the seats are 150% better than before they are nowhere near as comfortable as my 80 or the Montero seats I have in my FJ40......
Ya' should have come down last weekend with Poser and hung out with us....

Got up to my buddy's place tonight around 6, got a good 3.5 hours in tonight.

First thing I did when I got there was check to see if my driveshafts fit, they did :) But, the clearance on the front driveshaft to the tranny pan is to tight. No big deal, I was planning on taking the pan off anyway to paint, I will just do what others have done and taper that side of the pan to give the shaft a little more clearance. Other than that, front one fit nice and so did the rear, so driveshafts are done except for paint.

As far as the body, more of the same. I worked on the inside, just smearing skim coats of mud here and there and sanding them off. Paper thin, but still going for smooth. I would say a lot of what I'm doing now is just smoothing out what came from the factory. It isn't bent from anything, just misc. spot welds and un-even stuff that I think just was that way.

My buddy did a little work on the outside. Blocked down the driver rear quarter again and did a little plastic work on the outside cowl, just making the factory transition a little nicer.

Wife said she's going to head up tomorrow with me to sand. The plan is to sand every last square inch again, and hit it with primer, should be an all day job.

Yea, I'm still planning on using the 79 seats against everyones advice. I realize everyone is probably right, but I'm still going to give them a try. I'm kinda an idiot that way :D

Come down to Minneapolis or Texas? What were you doing at Steve's or what was Steve doing down there?

Matt

More of the same today, sand all the primer off that we sprayed before and prime it again. We pretty much blocked the entire body down again, every square inch. Took the doors and tailgate off so we could block down all the jams too.

I spent most of my time on the inside, while my buddy and my wife worked on the outside :) Yea, even got her up there again, said she's probably coming back tomorrow again to help also :princess:

The toner for todays primer was red, so that is are new guide coat color.

Heading back up in the morning, the plan is to block the enitre vehicle down inside and out again and hose it down with primer again at the end of the day.

Getting close, still a few primer coats away form being done.

Maybe next week we can make center pieces for the dinner table ;)

Matt,

You, D, and the Wife are doing a great job...I will stop myself from making any comments about sewing, references to home-ec, or the possiblities of the wife getting you to make some curtains for the house... ;^) I might end up asking for help with the BJ40.

Not sure if I told you about this little bit of excitement and I hate to disturb your block of instruction on cruiser rebuilds and hemming dresses but figured it would be the best way to get you a pic. Plus, somebody else might like a peek at what a small bolt that loosens up and falls into a turbine engine does while on take off. Makes the first stage blades look like steak knives...needless to say I landed the helicopter and everything was fine. People on the ground didnt know why we were shooting out sparks or flares out the engine....hmmm yeah.

Anyway keep the pics rolling and I still havent figured out what I plan to do with the ps issue on the BJ. You are kickin' a$$ on this...Catch ya later,

Travis

Nothing glamorous today, more of the same. Block sand off all the the primer that we sprayed from the day before and spray another coat of primer before we call it a day :)

Getting really close and looking nice and smooth. Maybe 1 more weekend of this, 2 more weekends at the most.

Next weekend is Thanksgiving and I have to work that weekend, very, very busy at the store. So, I will be working next Friday, Sat. and Sunday so no lv work. It will be the weekend after, Dec. 2nd I will be back up there sanding primer.

My wifes Mom and her Grandma are coming up to our place for Thanksgiving.........I'm going to have the sewing machine set up inside along with the buckets and rear bench so that can look at it and the seats. Just want to bring them up to speed on the equipment and project and try to get them in the mood :D

You can make fun of the fat kid and my new sewing machine all you want smart ass. BUT, When I crank out my 2 tone, off white/continetal beige, seats, door panels, floor carpet, spare tire cover, curtains for the house and hem that dress for my wife...etc... for what would have cost me thousands for only a few hundred bucks.......You'll be begging me to borrow it :flipoff2:

Dude, not good on the turbine........ How long after take off did this happen? How high were you? Did you have to shut it down or limp it home shoot'n flames out the back?
