My 1964 fj40 does not have holes to attach the Hard Top Windshield Cap, has anyone seen this before, there are no holes to bolt down the windshield cap

No.

Did someone fill the holes with a repaint?

Would FST be on the VIN?

Yes , it just may be on your Engine bay DATA ID Plate

Look at My Model identification guide page below under Soft top

to see if u have a match FJ40L-A

Nope, I disagree. My '64 is an FST, and the data plate does not indicate it. Just says 'FJ-40L'. It does not include any of the other designators like 'A' or 'V'.

And the whole truck wouldn't have to be an FST, just the windshield frame. A true '64 FST would have a drop tailgate, 6 holes in the side lips of the tub for the twist locks, footman loops at the rear tub corners, and rubber bumpers and hood latches to hold down the folded windshield. Among other bits.

ive had several 64 ,65 fj40s and none had the top fastened to the w shield frame .they leaked a lot of air .they did have a thick gasket that went between the frame and the top

do you have a photo of the top sure its the right one

Any chance it's a fiber glass window frame?

This is also an FJ40L - the back however is not a tailgate, but the 2 small half doors. This whole thing would probably easier if I had photos.

Here are some from early on in the restoration process. I will get full pictures this weekend and post. Super stoked on all the responses, Legends.

The FJ came with hard sides, fiberglass top, windshield cap, hard top door frames etc. All the same red, all seemed original. SO I just assumed it was set for a hard top. Keep in mind that I bought it like what shows in the pictures, so the previous owners did not have the hard top on,

Probably not an FST, then. Correct hardtop for a '64 would be corrugated (ribbed) sides without rear corner windows.

Yes, yes it would. ;)

Hard sides for this are not corrugated, and the sides it came with have the corner curved windows. Starting to sound like this FJ is not to specs.
Not surprising. It is, after all, 55 years old now. Lots of stuff gets changed over the years. Very few '64s are still (or again) as original these days.

Lots of people even added corner windows to corrugated sides.
