1964 FJ40 hard top confusion

Here are a few photos, the info plate states that it is a FJ40L but does not add FST- The windshield frame does not have bolt holes but it looks like someone had the windshield cap connected somehow.

Any ideas how to connect the Hardtop to this?

Those are not 65 or earlier sides or doors. Rest of rig looks early 65 or 64 (not seats though, engine/drivetrain???), and looks like a very solid rig. Nice! (what's the VIN if I missed it's posting?)

February 1964 build.

No more snow storms

At least inside, in the face:p This is the seal I got from McMaster Carr (1120A582), fits well, looks clean and looks like it makes a pretty good seal on the windshield bow. Presses onto the lip on the windshield and holds fast (but can be removed).

Notice those 3 little holes in the last pic, they need to be filled. I'm open to offers. Come on, you know you don't really use that rear view mirror anyhow. I'll pay good money (valuated at 2020 US inflation rate:grinpimp:).

Here’s some pics of my ‘65, same as your ‘64. Last pic is interior with cap on. The riveted piece on the front simply bears on that hefty rubber seal shown in the first two pics. No direct fastening for the cap to the windshield in this area.

How weird! My frame number is 4-FJ40-23306 but is a 1965 model. How did that happen?

23306 would be the same (2/64). Where did you get the ‘65 date from?

Yeah, that’s puzzling for sure. Stamping the model as “1965” but having a frame number that starts with “4-“ and falls in early (date-wise) 1964. Maybe something to do with the FST models? Hopefully one of the model experts will chime in.

Current progress, checked out your pictures from your rig, I will probably need to do something along those lines.

Two questions probably not pertaining to the original post, does the rear top of the hardtop slope towards the front as opposed to being straight up and down or is it just the picture and are the frame number supposed to match the engine number if it's original to the truck. Sorry to go off topic a bit.

Since I'm not a seasoned FJ40 guy I'll need some guidance. I keep seeing the term FST for a factory convertible but no where in my Factory bits of intel does it read FST that I can find. I read L and L-A for convertible

Did someone make up the term FST?, or is it located in Factory print somewhere......?

Ed-u-cate me please with reference material.

Does it really matter where it came from? It just means factory soft top.

Probably not an FST, then. Correct hardtop for a '64 would be corrugated (ribbed) sides without rear corner windows.

Yes, yes it would. ;)
ive owned a 64 and 65 with corner windows and there was photos on here a few years ago on others with them the windows are wierd looking i still have one just because ,they may have been added by po)s but who knows

Definitively added. A common mod along with adding a piece of glass to the lower folding hatch section. The old hardtops are rally hard to see out of.
