I need to get some rear windows, there’s straw inside the cab now 😂.

So I ask the community can combustion gases get into the lower block (oil pan) if the head gasket is compromised? And is the head gasket still available for the early F motors (‘64 F135)? Thanks. Paul

Looks like the answer to the first question is yes according to this:

Looks like this answers question two:

OEM Engine Gasket Set for '58 to '67 Land Cruiser FJ40 FJ45 FJ25

OEM engine gasket set for '58 to '67 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40, FJ45, FJ25 with Siamese Port F Motor. Includes cylinder head gasket, 3 piece manifold gasket, valve cover gasket, valve cover seals and thermostat housing seal.

Also looks like Toyota 04112-60062 gasket kit is still available.

Interesting, but maybe not. Set valve lash cold, then ran engine till fully warmed, checked the lash and no change.

This is fun.

But nothing here or in drained oil.

No coolant loss. Figured it‘s blowby product. I’ve had a fair amount of chemical warfare (AutoRx, SeaFoam) going on to see if some rings free up and I finally found someone who said (from experience) to expect increased blowby products when using chemical warfare.

Drained oil (signs of carbon deposits, so something loosened up) and replaced with new oil and filter. Initial runs show improvement (significantly less smoke out of valve cover), we‘ll see with some more driving.

I do have this now, if I get bored.

Milkshake still happening 😡. I’ll run through tests again, then decide what to do.

First official informal fuel mileage check - 11.7 mpg.
IMG_3656.JPG

Haven‘t calculated the oil usage yet. Guessing somewhere between 200-300 mpg 😂.

Drinking problem detected. 😂 Mine was running 12 around town when I first got it. I cleaned the fuel filter, cleaned the air purifier box and dropped a new filter, advance timing a tiny bit abs for 32 inch tires and got 15 mpg in town and 18 on highway. Planing on going to 33’s soon to see if that helps a little more. I also had a carb from Jim C. That helped with the improvement.

Up and down the dirt roads around here, max speed of 45 maybe. With two mid-60’s vintage Carter carbs on an offenhauser manifold. So I should get around 22-23mpg if I eliminate one of the carbs, right? 😝

Hey middlecalf. It's been a long time since I checked in. Good to see that 45 SWB is still alive! I was saddened to see you're still having engine troubles. Is it time for a rebuild?

Thanks for checking in @cult45! I’m going to drive the rig a bit more and see how aggravating the oil usage becomes 😂 while keeping an eye on its overall health. At some point I’ll probably have to get into some level of rebuild. I‘ll also keep an eye open for a “backup” motor.

Y’know I hear a 5.3L would wake that baby up a little 😆
Just kidding. Don’t shoot.

One inch break on the FD vacuum cable 😡. We‘ll see how long this splice lasts. Works good for now.
