I already have two of those typ of rigs.

I'm following you footsteps thought. Build a few Off Road rigs and then restore one to get the Karma back. :D

Dan,

That truck looks really familiar! The angle grinder is your friend. I say cut it and crawl it, make the ole girl feel young again. She is screaming for 1 tons, coil overs and a family cage. :flipoff:

I feel like I'm running a Land Cruiser Rescue Mission at my place instead of just a Beagle Rescue Mission.

I think I found one 6 miles from my house. A guy jsut called wanteing to convert it to the flip up door door instead of the Bi-Fold. And he wants smooth sides on the side of his rig instead of the "some thing that looks like a tin roof".

I'll get some pics and post so you can let me know if it is the correct one.

No pin on the chains that I have found.

I have the Stamped bezel.

The correct hardtop for this is one with the corregations on the side and the bi-fold door in the back?

That's correct. The 63 and earlier side panels were different to fit over the high B pillar on the tub. The 64 and 65 side panels didn't have the cut out.

Interesting if these tall door posts were cut. I have been looking for a very clean '64 tub, and thought this might have been a good deal...price would have been great...oh well, mine is not too bad (still very drivable, but not perfect), so slowly I keep looking.

So then he does need the older top with the high posts, and now he'll need to find a couple posts to weld back on.

The 64 had the normal B pillar. The 63 model year not the 63 production year had high pillar. I do have a couple of 64 hard top sides that need a little work that should work depending how they cut the high pillars off. I did notice there is no ashtray so it's earlier than my 63. Both are hard tops. I PM you my VIN when I get home.

Dan, on the first picture you posted in post #3, you can just see the post we are talking about behind the driver's door. It should be a tall post if this is an early '63 (like the green '62 pictured below) but it looks like the short post (like on blue '64 pictured below).

If the guy you just mentioned has a '64 or early '65 top, it might just fit as is. If he has a '63 or older top, you might need to build a new post, or find a couple tall ones off a parts rig, and weld them back on. Either way, if the price is right, you can't go wrong with an extra top for parts.

edit...forgot to add the pics

Good for you Dan!

Cruisers need to be rescued just like Beagles;)

So then you need a '63 or older top, with the space for the high post/pillar, as on the green rig pictured above.

Did the guy give you a price for the top he wants to get rid of?

nice early cruiser... centered rear end and all. :D

forget all that hard top nonsense and paki it.

I sold it to him a few months ago for $150.00. :bang:

Actually Orangefj45 had it and I found a buyer.

I can't remember if it for a High post or not.

Tell the guy you'll do him a favor, and take it off his hands ;) Seriously, $150 isn't bad...at least you get spare glass, bi-fold, fiberglass roof panel...assuming it is for short posts. 6 miles down the road, and you haven't paid him a visit yet? :D

Cool that you found one of the pillars, you could probably lop off enough off the '64 tub to fix the passenger's side of the '63.

Actually, TLC had a '63 corrugated top for sale not that long ago...maybe he can help you with that other, missing, pillar??

I think we need to trade VINs. Without the defrost vents thru the windshield no ashtray I'm beginning to think this is a true 62 and not an early 63. Happened all the time back in the early days for Toyota here in the US. They weren't selling a ton of them in those days and got called a later model when titled. Later they got the brass tag with the VIN plate but I've never seen a brass tag on the real early cruisers. Two of my FJ25s are titled as 61 but Toyota never put out a 61 model of the FJ25. They were all 60 or early models. Toyota's 61 model was the FJ40.

I'll try and post pictures of the defrost vents and the pin on the end of the chain tonight. The pin for the hi/lo lock is not the same.

The registration paperwork that came with it says it

First year Sold
1962

I figured it was a 1963 since they generally start selling next years models the current year. I don't know how they did it back in the early 60's though.

Nice score Dan! And right out'a my backyard. I'm too new to this fetish to recognize the diamonds just yet:eek:.

Sorry I wasn't around Sunday when you called.

Here's the VIN off my early 63 2FJ40-16956 This is stamped as a 1963 on the VIN plate but is a 1962 production date. Has the ash tray and defrost vents.

Here's a few picture of the 63 I have.
