Don't look too bad. 1 year warranty to boot. I would look into upgrading your wiring to take full advantage of the amps. A little more details would be nice. Output at idle, and 1500 rpms. Brand of guts would be of interest also. Try it and report back!

be careful! I used one of these alternators and it failed on me and caused me to be stranded. From what I can gather the internal voltage regulator in the unit failed which caused the FULL amount of the alternator to push voltage unregulated to the system and blew my main fuse.

I am still on the search for a good quality unit that has the internal regulator to handle the extra power.

Slee and many others recommend sticking with the stock alternator

Plus there's still the option of the photoman bracket + sequoia alternator.

What's the sequoia alternator rated at? Also 160?

Yeah I have the 150 Seqouia in mine.

Aside from when it gets mud in it, it works great!

It's in my build thread if you wanna read about it.

Hey All... thanks for your comments and thoughts about this. I've read the posts around adapting your TLC to work with other Toyota Alternators, and it seems like a popular fix.

I've done things like this before with other 4x4's I've owned and they haven't come out well for me. However it looks like there is a lot of common support for that adaptation and it seems like a good solution.

I've called this company checked them out and it sound like a solid deal. Not to mention they have over 2200 reviews on ebay and 100% feedback.

I'll post up how it works out after the install and wiring upgrades.

Looking forward to your results.

I've started to take apart the wiring and have isolated the "B" wire for the Alternator. Now for the big question, what to do with that fuseible link?

I called up a company called Littlefuse and they were very knowledgeable in this area. From what I gather fusible links really don't go into the 160AMP range. This is why they offer their MEGA fuse line...

From their product description -
Commonly used for battery and alternator connections and other heavy gauge cables requiring ultra high current protection
Provides time delay characteristics
175 Amp designed and patented by Littelfuse, color code white
Designed for high current circuit protection up to 250 amperes
Slo-Blo feature eliminates nuisance blowing during temporary, short duration overloads

Here is the Carrier -

From there I plan to replace the "B" wire with either a 4 or a 2 Gauge wire. With the wire only being less the 24” I'm leaning towards the 4 gauge...

The Megafuse products are good.

As for me and my truck, I am using mini-ANL fuses on 4ga lines. Much cheaper than Littlefuse's fine products.

There are also midi and full size ANL fuses, but full size ANL fuses are the polar opposite of 'small'. Still, I will be using the full size ANL fuses on the 2ga lines, because they don't make a mini-ANL fuse holder for 2ga wire.

ok, yeah I pm'd and sent an email to photoman so we will see, thx.....

I got it from him a few weeks ago. Installed the Sequoia 150A alternator with new brush along from upgraded battery cables from Fourrunner yesterday.

I've completed the install of this Alternator without issue. It installed very smoothly. I used 4 gauge starter cables as the "b" wire from the alternator to the Little Fuse and then to the "+" battery terminal. I trimmed the starter cables and made sure the newly cripped ring connectors were tight. The alternator fired right up and appears to be working well.

I still have the original alternator, so I'm going to see if this company will take it as a core and give me a discount on a second 160AMP alternator ~ its always nice to have a backup ~

Good progress...
Check out FourRunner wire upgrade kit. I used them in my 150amp install as well. Excellent Quality.. great crimps :)
