What all did you have to swap over? I’ve seen a few thread but nothing concrete: oil pan, and throttle body?

Go back and read the thread "The Unicorn" I gave you. In it, I used a GX470 VVTi engine. It shows what all needs to be swap over.

Sorry if I missed some details but I think you said the timing belt is intact. What’s preventing it from starting up? I’d rally the dog**** out of it before rolling over and buying a new engine. Mechanics do what mechanics do and they’ll find all sorts of evidence that an engine is ‘broken’ but a lot of Toyotas just run anyway out of spite. Just top up the fluids and drive it while you shop for a replacement. People are crashing really great rigs all the time. A donor is out there but I’d want to see a rod hanging out of the side of the block before I declared my engine done.

Start simple. If you rotate the engine by hand does it move or is it bound up? I think you said you tried starting it once but it sounded flat.

Next would be to check for fuel. You can disconnect at the fuel filter and see if you get fuel when you crank.

After that check spark plugs to see how they look. I assume you have checked the battery voltage already?

Last would be air pathway. Check the air filter and make sure it isn’t clogged. You can do this when you check the spark plugs since you will need to pull the air intake pipe.

Did some better scoping today. Several cylinders are so scored they are flaking off and that is the debris seen on the piston head. I think she’s cooked, literally. I guess compression is low enough it isn’t starting.

It is best to find a replacement engine or if you can find a wrecked 100 with good engine.
