I'm looking for confirmation of a suspicious part here. I'm posting this here, rather than in the 100 series forum, because I don't want to try to muddy my evaluation with outliers from the high price areas from the rest of the country.

I have quotes from outside the US for around $600 for (1) each new CV axles, 43430-60040, with shipping costs of between $220-$350. These quotes are from numerous sources, so I doubt very much they're inconsistent with the international market value, shipped to the US.

The online Toyota prices are around $350 (ish) plus $150 (ish) to ship. Given what I know from decades of buying Toyota parts, I doubt very much that the US dealers are selling critical driveline components for around half of what the JDM prices are. I expect that the dealers factor in a (very small) shipping cost (for individual parts), for the container of parts the warehouses receive, and passing that (criminally marked up) cost along, with the parts cost (and another markup). So, I would expect the US domestic market prices to exceed, or at the very least be roughly equal to, the overseas wholesale prices.

I have it on good authority that "new" CV axles being sold by dealerships are actually rebuilt Cardone axles.

I'm interested to hear about any recent experience that anyone has buying these parts. I'm looking for anything within the past 12-18 months; prior to that, the shipping disaster created by he who shall not be named would skew the data, so I'd rather stay away from anything older.

I bought some CVs and Flanges from via my mechanic in St Geroge, Utah from a Toyota Dealership. The CVs were around $300 each and I've not had any issues with them.

I've seen the same prices also online via the dealership online parts. I've got one needing to be replaced, but saw the price and said Damn, I'll do both. Hadn't done it yet, but never thought Mr. Toyota would try and pass off remanufactured as dealer OEM...

The question wasn't whether the axles were any good, it's whether they were factory replacements or not.

I pulled the CV axles from my truck to reboot them, only to find out that the OEM CV axles had previously been replaced with rebooted Cardone axles. They appear to be relatively new (I bought the truck a couple of years ago, knowing that it had previous front end work done, and that I'd be in it sooner or later).

They'll be available for anyone who wants them, after I get the OEM axles installed...assuming I actually find them.

That's exactly why I'm posting this. I have no intention of installing aftermarket axles in this truck. If I was going to do that, I wouldn't go to a dealership and buy them.

FWIW, I'll give you the ones I removed, if you want them. They need boots. I'd guess we have maybe 10k miles on them.

I’m not sure what the deal is now but Toyota used to sell new and reman axles. The reman’s were PN 43430-60040-84. Seems they don’t sell those anymore. I haven’t heard of dealers selling reman’s as new but I admittedly don’t spend as much time looking at the 100 series forum as mine hasn’t needed axles yet, just a reboot.

Decatur is one of if not the cheapest sources for parts I’ve found in the US. Free shipping too on most big dollar orders.

This is the right picture, but that doesn't mean it's the part they're selling:

I just don't believe it's OEM, for the price.

This just in, from the FWIW department:

If you're looking for a trail spare (or two), Rock Auto has just the thing!

...and they even come with w/ a 30-day warranty!

From what I can tell, the difference between the "standard duty" and "heavy duty" is the neoprene boot on the HD models; makes me wonder what they're using for a boot on the others 🤔

I just bought 2 new not reman CV axles from Scott Clark Toyota the other week. They keep them and all the seals in stock. ONSC pricing is far better than what you posted from over seas above.

I would find it hard to believe that toyota is selling reman CV axles from another company but stranger things have happened. May be good to ask someone like Kurt or Beno as they would have more inside info.

From my experience, the new Toyota CV's are boxed in the typical red and white boxes with legitimate Toyota part number labels. What is inside are new Cardone axles. Maybe @OGBeno can confirm this for us?

Even Lexus retail is cheaper than the cheapest I could find direct from Japan:

Just so everyone is aware of the problem, here's what the fake joint looks like:

Without removing the boot, you can "see" the axle is a Cardone by pulling on the outer shaft. The inner three lobed needle bearing joint will slide out of the housing, because Cardone left the inner snap ring (wire) out when they redesigned the axle for the aftermarket. That isn't a big deal, IMO, but the size of the joint is, again IMO.

The inner joint should look just like the outer: similar to an 80 series birfield with a double cage and 12-mm balls.

Also, to add insult to injury, they replaced the inner (differential) retaining ring (lower right) with one they found on the floor somewhere (upper right). This damn thing will not release no matter how much you pound on it. You can see the difference between the retaining ring Toyota designed, with the large gap) and the one Cardone chose (with nearly no gap at all). The closer the ends of the wire are, the harder it is to get them to separate under load. Cardone wins the prize for "a cheaper engineered alternative" by using a commercial off-the-shelf retaining ring, instead of the design Toyota came up with, intended to aid in service.

Of course, Cardone never has to remove one of their axles, so it's of no concern to them.

Toyota was offering reman 100 CV's recently, part# 43430-60040-84. They were not amazing quality imo and the boots were not even their own Japanese kits. Decent budget option but the full new unit is far superior.

They are charging a core on the 43430-60040 at some dealer networks so I suspect remans may be coming again.

Here's a screenshot of ab old post of mine about the remans

Thanks

Based on the information that has been sussed out in this thread, it looks like I was mistaken. The CV I have in the box is the reman'd unit from Toyota (which is a Cardone and came in a Toyota box with red printing). I purchased it as a trail spare. I compared it with a Cardone CV purchased on Amazon by a friend of mine for $30 less and it was identical in every way, down to the part number etched on the shaft. It's good to know that new Toyota CV's are available.
