everyone scoring deals

i got sears xcargo 20 cu ft for 40 that was just used once

I have had exactly that one for almost 10 years. It has been on a Forester, 4Runner, and may now go on the 100.

20 cu ft is tons of space if used right:
6 2x2 interlocking floor mats on the bottom
3 banana boxes down the middle
EZ Up on the right side
2 tents up front
3 camp chairs on the left side
Stove on top of boxes
2 sleeping bags in loose storage bags filling the weird top shape
still have 8" across the back for propane bottles, and misc tools.

Found it on CL for $100 and the seller turned out to be an old friend of mine!

Have to say that if I needed another one I would certainly pay full price.

I have never had a cargo, but I can certainly see how handy they would be. Do they a fair amount of adjustment for the mounting locations? As in the load bars can be from 24-48” apart, vs the load bars need to be exactly 36” apart.

My Sears 21 has a very limited range for where the load bars may be -really more a matter of accommodating different widths of bars.

Night brew, most of the Older ones are not adjustable. Yet years back they certainly started to make they more adaptable. The tracks inside can accommodate different rail length, then ofcourse adjustments of rails on vehicles.
The newest can attach and detach Extremely easy- yet semi older ones (I have) are not bad. Craigslist is your best friend. I mounted mine prior to handling over cash. Wanted to ensure latch system operating properly.

I figured this as the situation. So many options nowadays, I figured they were pretty versatile.

Took the plunge at REI summer sale on Yakima and Thule gear.
$500 bucks later, the Thule force xt XL. I wanted the Yakima sky box 16 but this one is chunkier and can store much more comfortably. Pretty easy install. Opens on both sides yada yada yada.
It works.
I like it. Fishing gear and the camping bedding/paddle boards and bags all fit leaving ample room in the truck.

I liked it accept in high wind. Planning to get another, smaller unit. I forget the model but you get the idea. I bought it off FB marketplace for $100, sold it for the same price.

I just got this recently. Thule Castcade xt. Honestly, the attachment ease of on/off is 10x better than the previous Thule I had, takes no time to put on or remove and store in corner of garage.
Can’t imagine what the newest models are like. Granted, you will be paying a good amount for that. I see most fellas have the Craigslist/Facebook purchase ones. They are a deal at fraction of the cost. I can use it on my 100 or my Gals wagon.
Worth the money in my book to get a good model with quick on and off ability.

I’m about to pull her trigger on an unknow make and model box off of CraigsList. It’s 90” long. I measured my truck and it’s going to be the full size of the roof for sure. Can anyone reference if that sounds reasonable?

thanks!

Old fiberglass cargo box from the 90’s. Arc is the company name... I put 180w of flexible solar on top to power my aux batteries and installed some Yakima quick connect clamps to make it easy on and off.

Don’t ya know- you must have a open top cargo rack to lash items to as you traverse the Jungles and Rivers of your adventure expedition.......
Or A Nice cargo box to Contain items out of the weather, out of site and locked. 👍

I am in the process of starting to prep for the summer road trip season and I am in the market for a Yakima/Thule rooftop box. I would like to see what makes/models the 100 owners are using, if at all. I know the overlander way is to lash gear to the top of their rigs reminiscent of The Beverly Hillbillies, and the use of an aerodynamic cargo box is probably frowned upon here. That being said, if you do use one, tell me which model and even drop a pic here, lets see how they look mounted to your rig. Thanks in advance!

We have 4 pelican 1610s. We pack them just like luggage, roll them to the truck, strap to the roof, then remove and roll them in at our destination. Works fine for us.

How convenient this thread popped up. I was trying to research cargo carriers for some trips this summer. But they’re literally all out of stock for 2 months. Nothing on Facebook marketplace either.
