anyone running 1/2 cordless impact .. ? test a milwaukee one last weekend and was nice .. I was so impressed

had one at work , it was junk after a few months . get a ir or snap-on .

IR 231 is a great gun. It has been used to change our "chipper knives" A few blurps of NUTO 32 hydraulic oil and watch the fog come in.

Kevin,

Thanks for the pics of the impact and good explanation of how they work. I have 3 of them and will be greasing them soon.

I've never greased them. I put about 5 drops of oil before each use. These are used in a home environment.

Kevin, I also Thank You! for posting up the IR greasing information. I have never greased my three year old 2135Ti. Mine has been used in a home garage environment so it has not seen much use compared to a commercial user. I noticed that it had more rattle than when new so I took it apart and believe I got it greased before I did any damage. Check out the pictures and let me know if anything looks amiss to you please. There was still a thin film of grease on everything, hopefully it shows up in the pictures.

Jeeeeezzzz, great thread about the greasing, I will be checking mine soon.

Aircat makes a 1/2" drive that puts out 1000ft/lbs. They are really powerful I'd love to post a link, but I'm not a vendor.....yet!

Dont know if it has come up ,anyone know what size ratchet you can use one a PUMA 12V
THX

I'm not an air ratchet fan, so have never tried one with the Puma. For impacts, have run the 3/8" IR's with success, the 212, 2112 and 2115 all work well. The 212 uses less air, so has a slightly longer run time. The 2112 and 2115 use more air and are more powerful, they can remove all 6 properly torqued lug nuts on my rig before having to wait for the compressor to cycle.

1000ft/lbs "claimed" by the manufacture. In the tool world have seen lots of things "claimed" and don't deliver. I have never seen an Air Cat hit close to that number on the Skidmore. Not that it necessarily a bad thing, if it has enough power to do the job, it's all good. Just that I take the "claims" with a grain of salt, most power "claims" are overstated and air consumption "claims" are understated. :o

Until today I didn't know what a skidmore was. Thanks.

I have taken several of my mediocre tools to Kevin's shop for reality tests. Big fun. :D

I had no idea that you supposed to grease the guns. I do however oil them after ever use. I have a Blue Point AT531 rattles badly, and I was thinking it was on the way out. Maybe I should try to grease it? It doesn't have any grease fitting, shall I open it up to grease it. What kind of grease do you use? Could you cover a bit details?

Thanks in advance.

I used to sell MAC. I don't really have any loyalty to them anymore, but I thought I should point out that IR used to make their guns and more recently, Air Cat. They both performed well IMHO. No huge amount of returns/warranty issues. When I worked for them, they would get the newest featured gun and market it for a brief period before it hit the general public. I just used my 7 yr old AW434 Mac gun tonight. I wasn't allowed to sell that particular gun at multiple tire shops due to its "excessive torque". But that was back in the day...

The AW434 is IR231 guts in a Mac branded housing. Some are genuine IR parts, others are generic copies. They make the same power as the IR231.

I was given an old Chicago Pneumatic CP-734. When you hook it up to air all you hear is air flowing out of the trigger area. The gun won't work in forward or reverse. Any words of wisdom or ideas on what needs to get rebuild? I looked up a parts diagram and it's slightly different than the 734H which was the only diagram I could find. It appears to be missing some parts when I pull the bottom assembly off the handle. I'll try and post pics tonight when I get home.

Thanks,
Brittain

Pix? Most times, when the valve leaks, the tool runs when plugged in. Does the anvil turn or is it tight/locked?

Pics Finally

Sorry it took so long. The anvil spins freely when I turn it. When hooked up to an air source the gun does nothing but blow air through the trigger.

The valve is stuck fully on (yellow arrow). Remove the inlet fitting (where the air fitting screws in), under it should be a spring and the valve. The valve is likely stuck, may require some lube and gentle "persuasion". It maybe just stuck and/or the o-ring maybe missing. There maybe other issues, with the throttle stuck open, the tool should run anytime the air is plugged in.

Also, don't lose this pin, it may have an o-ring around it, so may or may not fall out. It should move freely, should be able to push on it and the trigger pop up, push on the trigger and it should move back.

That would be my problem. under the air inlet fitting there is nothing at all. Just the metal body of the handle. So it appears I am missing the spring and valve.

What is your opinion of the Aircat 3/8"?
