    Smog delete?

I have a 1994 FZJ80 with the 1fz-fe. Looking in to a smog delete including egr, o2 sensor, etc. Cats are already removed. What all would I need to do these mods? Possible issues I could run in to? Related threads? How difficult would this be for the average guy?

    p401 EGR issues

Hey guys , I know there’s tons of threads out there related to these issues , and I’ve read about every single one of them trying to figure this out. On my 97 fzj80 I have the p401 that I can’t get rid of. I have tested the egr modulator, tested the egr valve , did the VSV mod using the dorman...

FJ40 EGR to carb soft hose

What type of hose should be used between EGR valve and carb(see yellow cap below)? Vacuum, fuel, etc. It appears to be around 5/8 diameter. Vehicle is 5/1977 FJ40. Original hose appears to be NLA. Thanks! Jeff

    PHH Forensics

Did the PHH bypass this week. Truck is 1996 with 200K. Did not look to be bad, but unless hose is bulging I'm unsure what a failing rubber hose looks like? Did the full Bypass with Gates (white stripe) and Breeze Constant torque eliminating the Metal Tube and both long and short pieces of...

    EGR rattle?

I've searched but can't seem to come up with anything. At highway speeds and mid- to high rpms (~3k), with very light throttle there is a loud rattling noise. It isn't at a specific rpm so I don't think it is a harmonic rattle of a heat shield or exhaust clamp. A lift off the throttle or...

EGR 401 error, VSV is new, but still not working

I have a new to me LX450. Had a 401 when I got it. The PO just changed out the VSV thinking that might be the cause. With it being out and exposed now, it helped me diagnose a little bit. EGR works fine if I draw vacuum on it directly (engine stalls). I ohm the VSV and get ~36 which is...

I got a po401 code, so I replaced the EGR Vacuum Solenoid, & then got a po402 code

I have a 95 Landcruiser with 245,000 miles on it. I'm in California, and need to get a smog check. The CEL came on about 5 days ago, and I scanned it and it said I had a po401 code ("Exhaust EGR Flow Insufficient"). I noticed that the EGR Vacuum Solenoid had a green sticker on it, so I assumed...

    Intake manifold EGR port

Ok, straight from the dumbass files: Cleaning EGR & modulator lines, stuck a cheap paper clip into this port - and Dammm I think a piece broke off inside this small port (driver's side, intake manifold). Tried to find another paper clip like it to determine if size matched and if truly broke...

Need advice on scouring EGR system.

Is it possible to de-carbonize the system with a strong solvent and reinstall, or is it better to simply replace the parts? I'm going to start with the temp sensor. Hopefully I can clean it well enough to re-use. Code 71 on a 94.

    Code 71: EGR Failure.

Found a rotten/open vacuum line at the EGR valve. Replaced it, cleared the code and went for a drive. Not sure how long it will take to verify the fix. Hopefully this was the only issue.

    EGR valve replacement or De-Smog?

I'm still getting to know my cruiser and I'm starting to realize that certain parts might not be available for my 3FE. EGR valve replacement is a scheduled maintenance item and I'm fairly certain my EGR valve hasn't been changed for 243k miles. If she was running great I wouldn't bother with it...

    Removing the EGR valve

Hi all, 1994 fzj80 with 238k on the clock. I have been battling the dreaded code 71 on and off over the last few months. I finally got around to removing and replacing the EGR valve, but dang it's tough to get off. I have the 32mm union bolt off, as well as the three bolts/nuts holding it to...

    EGR cooler leak question

'77 FJ40 mustard The EGR cooler has a pretty substantial leak where the cover meets the body of the manifold. Is it possible to replace just the cover or do I need to replace the whole EGR cooler? Searched and found several issues wth 'the big nut' and sheared bolts in removing the...
