That's right, with a little luck you won't be wondering what to do with that free month of Sundays. A quick trip under your truck might reveal rear heater tubes that look like this. If so, happy days Fred because the tranny needs to come out for the repair.

I LOVE the desert................:flipoff2:

yuck, IH8SALT

my 62 is a northern import, wile doing the cooling system on it was was under it looking at very similar lines, I cashually rubbed a screwdriver across one to get off the scale and see the metal underneath and it split open

my fix for the 62 was bypass the rear heat, fortunatly this will be way down the road for my 80.

I didn't have to pull the transmission to change it.........;)

You know, ever since I joined this ******* forum, I feel like I'm careening
from one potentially devastating "must fix now" to another :flipoff2:

Thanks Rick, for increasing my paranoia!!!

LOL.....:hillbilly:

I'll take the month of Sundays because any time with the cruiser is time away from the wife.

Paging Mrs. Landtank, Paging Mrs. Landtank.........:whoops:

so, where exactly do we look for this thing?

flex hoses are your friend!

and who needs a heater anyways...?

They're actually in 2 sections. The front section bolts to the firewall right behind the head with 2 bolts, then travels along the tranny tunnel and turns right over to above the Catylitic converters where it joins to the rear section above the heat shield and then travels back and ove to the rear heater.

Even bypassing this bastid at the firewall will be a very unpleasant job as the nipples face down and are well behind the engine.

No issue at all just some time.

True, time and $$$, but my month of Sundays will be spent on the trail!:D

Kevin,
I believe that's a bit of rust beginning to form. That would drive me crazy. Better get out the sandpaper and get rid of that nasty stuff while it's not too bad.

Ok, so you desert guys who have no need for a rear heater anyway don't have rust and us poor schmucks up north up need the dam thing have rusted pipes??

That ain't right :flipoff2:

The PNW is better, we get to use the rear heat, the pipes aren't rusted, and we don't get cracked dashes... :D
