I've researched this but curious what you all think. I've been told that Massey Ferguson Gray is a very close rattle can for painting stock steel rims. Well they have 3 different shades.

What do you all think:

1. http://www.tractorpartsinc.com/massey_ferguson_grey_paint_4302_prd1.htm

2. http://www.tractorpartsinc.com/massey_ferguson_flint_grey_paint_4305_prd1.htm

3. http://www.tractorpartsinc.com/massey_ferguson_silver_mist_grey_paint_4308_prd1.htm

I'd rather not have custome made because I need to get a pint and would guess I don't need that much to paint 4 rims.

I've also heard that Rust-Oleum Hard Hat Gray is a close match too, but can't seem to find that anywhere. I think Landpimp posted that. Anyone have a product number?

Thanks,

Brian

I used a Duplicolor spran can acrylic enamel on my rims. I can't tell the difference from stock color. Worked great and wearing well after applying last year.

worked for me.

That's what I used on my trailer wheels (painted to match the Cruiser's, which are powdercoated). Can't tell the difference. Good quality paint, laid on thick and smooth and seems to be holding up.

when i pulled tires off the wheels. there was some unweathered gray in there. so i spayed a swath down in side the wheel next to it, and this color was a dead ringer.
i understand there were a few shades of gray used over the years, the wheels i used were 74's and 75's, it was one of the 75's that had some color in it.
my whole 40 is rattle canned with this stuff. though it's MF red for the body. i have another 40 that's getting international white:grinpimp:

MF Paint

I've used that paint before on my Massey Ferguson tractor, its not bad stuff. The Massey Ferguson red matches the color of my 40 to, I've used it to touch up some places.

OE wheels were painted on the front faces only and faded a few shades lighter over time. I have seen two colors of grey. One light and one darker.

I would not paint these, if you have $75 I would have them powder coated (5) They will last longer and much easier to clean. This is largly due to the fact that I can't paint.

that's not an option for some people(me for one). the only place i found around here had one(1) gray and it was sssoooo not the right shade. that and they wanted all but 80 bucks a wheel.

i assuming that's a good thing:flipoff2:
i just like like using tractor paint on my urban tractor.

which apparently i've created enough of a demand, they've built a valspar plant right down the street from the house....

I would think that it depends on your usage. I would paint them probably because after wheeling, they are scratched to hell. With spray paint, I could touch it up if I felt so inclined.

I had a posting on smoothie wheels that were rattle can painted instead of powered coated (very costly).
Rust-Oleum Painters Touch Dark Gray was the final choice. Even used it on the half doors. Still holding up and have been active in the desert dust and dirt/mud for most of this summer. Cleans up well. Just take a few days to do each wheel and use one can per wheel (front/back) to get a nice deep mil thickness and look. No clear coat, it will most likely wrinkle. MY 10 cents worth, good luck.
