We found frame cracks on both rear spring hangers on the 40 today :( :( :(. Can anybody recommend a reputable shop to perform a repair of the frame, preferably in the Fountain Hills / East Valley area?

A great many thanks to Kevin for helping out with this situation!

Oh Crap! That sucks. You have a great rig, good luck with the repairs. Do you think that happened on the Chiva run?

Probably didn't happen on Chiva; we assume the cracks were there before, and the last run just aggravated a preexisting condition. Good thing we found it, I was just about to air down for an exploration of FR160 today; I don't want to know what would have happened if we had taken it on another trail...

Zoinks!

Holy chasm Batman! I can see light through those cracks!

Good luck fixing that, not sure that's repairable. Let us know what happens.

That's the spirit! That isn't too bad of a repair.....just drill out the rivits, clean the metal, weld it up, and build new spring hangers that offer more surface area on the frame. Good luck with it.

wow just saw the truck in person today, Yikes all i have ta say is your lucky ya spotted that when ya did. Seems strange to me though i mean the frame looks good, not rusty or anything so what would this happeen? hell my old 40 had 35s, small block ect... never any problems nor do many others? so what gives?

There was nothing obvious when I got the truck a year ago. But I have been wheeling it since, and something must have done it, although I have no specific recollection of any particular obtacle or situation. I just heard a 'clonk' the other day on the Chiva run, the sound was strange to me, similar but not quite like a small rock being thown up, happened only two or three times, not enough to reproduce it and recognize. Did not notice anything then when I inspected the truck after the run (as it was getting dark).

I still shudder at the idea of what could have happened on I-17 on the way home.

For nursing it back from our last trailhead Tuesday and to Kevin's shop, Michael rigged two ratchet straps to hold everything in place, actually the crack closed a bit under that tension on the highway.

You might try looking up lcwizard on the forum here. I'm sure he could fix it but not sure if he's available for that sort of work anymore.

Rob at 4 Wheelers Supply is capable too.

You might try Hunter Offroad Products (480) 557-7577 They do fabrication but I don't know if they would do this. I know his first build up was a 60 so maybe?!?

I would graft on both sides with 3/16" 1/4" plates after welding I did it on mine in the rear very strong

getting the royal treatment :D

I came in on this kinda late, did you get this fixed? Man that looks naaaasty. Sean Engard in Fountain Hills does all my welding / fabricating.... he's really good and a great guy to boot, plus he drives my old 40, and I don't hold it against him that he painted my old cruiser GREEN  .... if you don't have this handled PM me and I will get you in touch with him.

RUSH55 and msahr,

thanks for your offers/suggestions/concerns. Like I said, it's with Kevin (Tools) right now, I am confident it's going to come out MUCH better and stronger :D Well, at some point it HAS to, I have already registered (and paid $$) for Cruise Moab :grinpimp:

Good to hear that. Any idea how this happened? That's some scary looking damage!
