I took my PZJ70 and added a turbo to it a while back and was happy as a pig in mud...for a while.
Then a couple weeks ago during one of our late spring snowstorms I decided it was time to put that intercooler on that I had purchased a couple years ago for the PZJ75 pickup but never installed.
I thought of installing it in front of the rad but after pulling off the custom bumper and grill I changed my mind...up there it would get full of mud plus it could get damaged from a tree branch so...
I placed it on top of the engine, damn, I got enough room there to easily fit it... now I needed hoses, I remembered Bruce L has some intercooler hose laying around with all different angles and bends so a phone call later and I am standing there with a bunch of blue hose, a band new intercooler and a 3 in the morning dream in my head...
A few hours later the intercooler is installed and looking fine. Located almost dead center on the hood and away from the rear bend in the hood by about 2"...perfect.
Measure, re-measure and measure again and out comes the jigsaw. The hole was a perfect fit over the intercooler.
I looked at various hood scoops to drive air down onto the intercooler but nothing seemed to look right or fit properly between the windshield washers and give me the interior dimensions I wanted so...
Off to the fab shop, "hey Keith, I got a half hour job to do" yah right. 4 hours later we had a new custom aluminum hood scoop that copied the lines and angles of the 70 series hood, strong enough to stand on with the dimensions I wanted...to many pop rivets later (I mean it looks like crap with all the pop rivets) the intercooler is done...

Hummm, go for a run... yah, SEEMS like it has more power...
Not enough though... I want more...

So I have this used Propane Injection kit with rear door bottle mounts sitting in a box...so...
4 hours later and I go for another test run...

Damn, it rocks, it pulls hard right from the get go up to the red line (oh yah, the tach stopped so it is the red line in my head), 34" swampers and 4.11 gears and it is doing 150 in 4th with still more power under foot...

Am I happy? For now I am...

Cheers

If anyone wants pics I will post them up.

<So I am taking bets on how long this engine lasts>

BTW, I still have not increased the fuel settings so there is a bit more tweaking I can do if I get bored again. NO black smoke even under the heaviest foot.

if anyone wants pix:rolleyes: sheeeesh who is this guy? sounds sweet man.

WAYNE , i guess you are getting some PAJERO technology ha ha i would love to see what youve done, you are right you might want to turn it up a bit good work
aaron

the boost is maxing at 15 psi (and it climbs there nicely)

i am guessing about 215 hp, torque?? can't even hazzard a guess.

115 stock
149 (30%) custom mapped turbo
179 (20%) custom spec'd intercooler
215 (20%) 3 cfm max propane injection (could be sqeezed up for a bit more)

i feel all these figures are under estimated and with an increase of fuel who knows...i have to get my pyro hooked up again before i will increase the fuel settings...

162.8 ( 20% ) Intercooler ( custom ? :grinpimp:)

brilliant dude .. you place the shot in the intake before the turbo ! nice .. I tought you gotta do between intercooler and intake ...

okay class, <said in my best teachers voice) let's think this through,
if you install the feed after the turbo what would be the problem??
why would i feed before the turbo? (a couple reasons can you figure them out?)

beautiful wayne, I cant believe how compact all the intake and intercooler piping is. how long ago was the pictures taken, is calgary still snowy?
I dont think youll have any problems getting the mud out of the treads in the tires now!!

Are you saying you put the propane injection in pre or post turbo, i dont understand your wording.

now get rid of those 4ft shackels and spring that biotch over.

That support bracket over the intake manifold looks kinda sketchy. Is that gonna hold up? Clean looking install. Couldn't have gotten those intercooler lines much shorter. Nice and tight.

Well, on a positive side regarding the snow, it will likely fill all the winter pot holes.

it is all my fault too, i dug the rag top 70 out of storage during the warm days and the next day it started snowing and basicly hasn't stopped. i got fed up and took the little ragtop to banff on Sunday just so i could enjoy it.. it has a wicked heater in it and other than "top slap" at 100 it was a great drive...sure needs a turbo though, i am not used to loosing speed on Scott's hill anymore...

the bracket does look sketchy but it is strong...remember thsi was a quicky install that was done spur of the moment...not much thought went into it.

i had a dream at 3 in the morning and it was a reality that night. (yah i am sick, most guys are dreaming of beautiful women and i am dreamning crusier mods...i guess it comes with getting old)
