I am new to this site and unfamiliar with Cruiser Dan. You all talk about buying parts from him and his good prices and stuff. Does he have a shop? Where is he based out of? How do I go about buying parts from him?

Look in the Vendor Market Place...he is based in New Mexico...but believe me, and everyone on this site, his prices are unbeatable...

... and his service and his knowledge and his reputation...

He is on vacation this week, so his PM box is closed. His guys can take your order, I just placed one yesterday, but it was not as smooth as when you deal with cdan himself, so unless you know exactly what you want, I recommend you PM or call him next week. His prices are 25% off actual list, whereas your local dealer probably actually charges 20-40% over list, while calling that "list price", then generously gives you a 10% discount... basically what I am saying is Cdan will save you lots of money.:)

Just ordered a set of gas struts for the rear hatch. Can't beat C-Dan's prices or service.

What was the tally on a pair of those??

Posted a similar question recently. I just tried to pm him and could not make contact - guess it is turned off in his absence?

Yes, PMs are turned off until he gets back.

I think list is 97.97 each, and probably about $75 from Cdan.
I just found a place that sells strut/supports exclusively, those are $22 each, plus they have a 10% discount code scrolling across the screen to save a couple more bucks. Yesterday, I ordered 2 struts for the hood on our 98 LX470 for $52, including shipping. I will give a report when they arrive.

Those are one thing I will try as an aftermarket item, can't see spending ~$150 to keep the hood open on the 470, about the only time I ever do that is for oil changes :D.

You can buy the struts cheaply all day long, but you may need to transfer the mounting brackets over.

For OEM list prices, check Specter's website.

Most of your questions have been addressed but I'll fill in some additional information.

CruiserDan is the parts manager at American Toyota in Albuquerque, NM. He has been in the parts business close to 30 years, most of it with the same dealer network (Larry Miller's empire) and most of those 30 years have been with Toyota stores.

Dan is also a Cruiserhead and knows almost as much trivia about Land Cruisers as Landpimp. Dan also customizes his ugly green FZJ80 (bought new in 1993) and participates in a local off-road club as well as national TLCA events like Cruise Moab.

Basically, Dan is like "us" only he has 1,000,000 US Dollars in Toyota parts sitting 10' from his desk... and several hungry dogs at home. :D

I, on the other hand, have 16,000,000 US AMERICAN DOLLARS waiting for me with my new best friend Mogodishu in Nigeria so getting a good discount is more important for you than it is for me.

I have two warnings when dealing with CDan. See Ken's post at https://forum.ih8mud.com/showthread.php?t=98148 here at MUD. Ken is a "Friend of Shaman," and I'm "In dept to Shaman." One issue here is once you place an order with Dan you go into both his computer system, and his mental system. He not only knows what you HAVE ordered, but what you HAVE NOT ordered. Should, for some reason, CDan sense bad ju-ju coming from you, that list of what you haven't ordered will come to light, usually at a bad time for you. Of course, he might only need to feed the dogs.

I try to keep CDan happy. I awaken every morning and say blessings to the northeast in the direction of American Toyota. So far my visits have been self-inflected. I don't think CDan's magic has got me yet.

The second issue is CDan's prices and service are so good it's hard to stop buying stuff from him. It's addictive. I have all three of his phone numbers programed into my cell phone ... just in case. The rush I get at America Toyota is almost as good as what I get from a Casino. And I seem to get more out of it.

I walked into Amer Toy recently after a brief absence (about 6 days), and the cashier, the wonderful gal that takes my money, said "haven't seen ya for awhile ... miss me?" I'm there so often the sales vultures know I'm there to get parts for my junk, and just say "hello" and open the door for me. Not kidding.

So give him a call. Tom and Joe will be glad to help you while CDan is floating at Lake Foul.

Jon, now deeply in dept to the Parts Shaman.

WHAT! I was going to say I have his home phone too, but so do you. Wait, CDan has a Blackberry? He can hardly operate a computer.

Do you have his Drum address?? You have to know just what to bang on the drums to get him to respond. Smoke use to work, but his eyesight isn't what it use to be:D

Mine were $149 shipped to me. They are well worth it after the 1000lb. hatch hits you in the head! The struts I bought off e-bay from some guy in cally were a lot cheaper. Didn't fit a darn think I have and he wouldn't return a call. So I guess I'll use them on my trailer lid. C-Dan is the man for Toyota parts.
