    Clutch release bearing?

I have a G52 transmission with new clutch and throw out bearing in my truck. I'm swapping it for a W56, can I use the old style throw out bearing from the G52 or do I need to get the newer style? Thanks

    22re won’t heat up

I rebuilt a 22re and started it up today. After working out all the bugs it runs great but I can’t get it to run warmer than 130 -150. I’ve tried 3 thermostats and no luck. One a new aisin and one out of the 22r I was running that ran at 210. I had a mechanical gauge mounted in the dummy gauge...

Good way to omit and replace the fusible link?

I've replaced most of the cables with 2 & 4 guage cable. I am going to run a new 4 guage wire to the Alt. + and would be a good time to replace the fusible link before it causes a problem. I'd like to completely remove it and maybe somehow tie back into the plate end in the fuse box. Has...

    Difference pre/post 88 clutch?

Is the only difference the throw out bearing? Are the discs, pressure plate and shifting fork the same? If I have transmissions from both pre/post 88, is there any advantage to either style throw out bearing?

This is how to remove the oil pump cover screws

I watched a bunch of videos and read a couple threads but they all seemed risky to me. This is what I used. 3/8” battery impact and a P-3 bit. It took longer to clean the head of the screws than to remove them and no damage to the screws. They should go back the same way. Clean the heads real...

What in blue blazes does this thing do?

I rebuilt this motor from an 87 pickup, my 88 FSM doesn’t have this thing in it. I deleted the air injection but this isn’t part of it.

Anyone found an alternate front crank seal?

Has anyone found a different toyota front crank seal for the 1FZ engine? I'm getting ready to try and fix all the leaks on the front of the engine. On the 22re there was a different crank seal between the truck/4runner and celica. the celica seal is shorter so the seal lip rides on a...

    2F Rod bolt broke

When my machinist was checking the bearing clearances one of the rod bolts broke. He is familiar with these engines and was using the correct torque. when i tore the motor down i didn't see any evidence of anyone being in the bottom end before who could have over torqued them. This makes me...

    Knuckle centering question

do The shims compensate for casting variations in the knuckle or ball or both? I was given a bare mini housing with no knuckles. I have several 60 series axles with knuckles. When I have rebuilt knuckles I have always used the original shims in the same location and never had an issue with...

    Opinions on replacing carrier bearings

I'm swapping two 8" elockers into my crawler. I have rebuilt several toyota diffs in the past on street trucks and always replaced all the bearings even though the carrier bearings looked good. Since the crawler sees very few miles and has dual cases so its slow, i was thinking if the carrier...

    Birfield balls different colors?

In the process of rebuilding the front birfields on my wife’s 80. The balls on one side are silver the other side has a gold tint. Similar to the difference in the balls in some steering gears. We’ve had the truck since about 30k and there is no evidence of anyone ever being in the knuckles...

Who's running elockers, had any problems?

I've been running one in the front of a mini axle, with 5.29's, RCV shafts, 37" pitbulls for about 4 years with no problems. I have 4 more, 2 4.30's and 2 4.11's and an elocker rear housing. I'm thinking about swapping in the 4.11's front and rear. Everyone keeps telling me they're junk but i...

Can't get my hydro assist to work

85 pickup, I rebuilt the pump and steering gear. I used a surplus center ram, 1.5 x 6 x1. I had a 3/8" hydro line made for the high pressure from pump to box, used 1/4" lines from box to cylinder. I made a larger reservoir and used a cooler. Works great when turning left (extending the rod)...

Transfer input gear gear seal groove

Tore transfer down for h55 swap. The seal groove is about .005 deep. I can definitely catch a finger nail in it. I'm sure this is fairly common if I use this the way it is its not going to seal good correct? What have others done? I have 2 other transfers I could tear down but chances are ill...
