So I've got one seriously ruined leaf spring on my FJ60 that I need to replace. I don't want to lift the truck, I don't want to spend a ton of money - I just need to get the truck roadworthy.
I would love to be able to pick up either one or both springs in reasonably decent condition in the...
I've noticed one for-sure bug in the new forum that drives me a little crazy. I'm a big user of key commands - control i on my keyboard places the italics code in, control b gives me bold, etc.
Those seem to be working some times and sometimes they're not. I've also had an issue where I've...
The FJC is back up for consideration as a replacement for my FJ60, but I just want to hear from the owners on how you guys like living with the FJC.
It seems small inside compared to what I live with - how is it for a family of four? We've got two kids (7 and 3) - is there enough room in the...
My driver's side rear drum brake is dragging again.
New shoes, new hydraulic acctuator thing, switched the drums from left to right, lubed the hell out of the e-brake bell crank thing.
It does seem to be acting differently now with the other drum in place. With the other drum, when the...
I wasn't able to crawl around in it or anything - it was roped off and sitting up on fiberglass rocks (just a tad gay) but it looked pretty good.
It didn't have the "presence" that I thought it would. The street tires it had on it probably didn't help.
For anyone in the area who may be...
I'm STILL having problems with my driver's side rear brakes - same ol' same ol' - I'm looking for new ideas here.
The problem: the rear brakes warm up after a good bit of use, and they start dragging.
What I've done so far: I've replaced the wheel cyl, the shoes, all of the springs...
So I'm getting the retarded brake lock up on the rear driver's side brakes - again.
Just recently - maybe 500 miles ago - I redid the shoes and springs for the rear drum. I greased everything, cleaned the crap out of everything, it should be good to go.
It starts to drag as I'm driving...
I'm starting to do the bigger mods on my 60...clients are sending out their checks, work is coming in steadily... it's ON baby!
Here's a question though: since I've decided to recurve my springs and get it lifted - if I go for the 3" lift, can I keep my standard brake lines for a short while...
I've come across a '91 FJ80 with 97,000 miles on it. Has everything but leather, running boards and the third-row seats...just under $7k for it. Sound like a good deal?
Don't hear much from the early 80 series guys...let's hear what you think!
Anyone done this? I talked to a shop this morning and they can do my truck for $300 per axle.
Sounds like a sweet deal - they add a leaf, recurve the old springs and can do it in one day (adding my poly bushings and new rear shocks that are sitting out in the garage waiting for cooler...
Just placed an order with them and thought I'd give a shout out...great service and the guy I spoke with on the phone actually knew what he was talking about! Prices are great too; I ordered an OEM Brake Master, clutch master and new clutch slave with tax (they're in TX) for $125.
Also...
So I've been looking around for a replacment rear bumper, but I'm not finding a whole lot. I've looked at CCOT, MAF and SOR, but the only thing that I've found available are those tube bumpers...and I don't like them much.
I like DocB's rear bumper with the side step/protection bar, but can't...
Changed out the AC compressor this morning. What a crappy job that is.
While putting the new one in, I discovered a little idler wheel - not a pully though - bolted to the bottom front of the AC compressor. Mine was gummed up, and the belt had worn a little flat spot on it. I sprayed it down...
Anyone ever rebuild their AC compressor?
I found my leak in the compressor - it's somewhere around the main shaft. If I grab the clutch, I can change the amount it leaks.
Here's what I'm finding pricewise:
Autozone: Reman, $110 w/ 3mo warranty (have to use my clutch)
NAPA: Reman, $187 w/...
Anyone care to venture a guess on this one?
With the truck off and quiet, I decided to go over the AC crap one more time before I put it in the garage. I looked at the expansion valve in the dark with my UV light and glasses and have determined that the glowing I saw earlier in the day was...
So, I had to tear the AC apart Sat. night. There was a leak at the expansion valve. Took about 3 hours, but I had it up and running, no problem - until I got into it today.
It leaked again, from the expansion valve joint...unbelievable. I used red loctite on the joints, preplaced the o-rings...
Here's a dumb question:
If I want to raise my oil pressure, can I just put in a new oil pump? Or are there other components (not including circuit blockage) that contributes to oil pressure?
I've been debating keeping my 60 and upgrading to an 80, but have come to decide that switching vehicles just doesn't make sense. If I were to spend $5k on a new 80, I'd wind up with a high milage vehicle that is 15 instead of 20+ years old, and would wind up having to re-learn everything...
Shhhhhh - don't tell any of the 60 series guys I'm over here!
I've got a few 80 questions, as I am considering the update. My poor old 60 is not only tired, it's a pain in the ass.
I don't want to make a big jump - I like the idea of the 3FE 80s, plus, they are cheap. I know that they...
