Next morning headed home. Stopped at the Eureka Lodge for some pie. As we got out I noticed a hot smell and smoke coming from the rear wheels. Both sides where spitting brake fluid and the axle/wheels where very hot. Didn’t realize that the...
Alright well, my air compressor decided to eat its belt, which I inspected prior and it looked totally fine. Halted my progress immediately, so I tried to make this negative thing into some sort of positive bit. Organized a bunch of crap, cleaned...
Washed the bride's FZJ70 and was not in a rush so I attempted to clean under the hood. The FZJ70 is a 1997 model from Saudi Arabia that is in great shape, so I was not anticipating the results to be very pronounced ... just a getting rid of...
Ok. I've ordered seal and gasket replacement kits for the turbo and t-case. As well as some other goodies. Oil, fuel and air filters, brake pads and the belts for the front of the engine. For when those need replacing.
Going to get fluids, drain...
ALRIGHT! MORE PROGRESS.
Cut out the crusty A-pillar and firewall, welded in new firewall section (excuse the gas bottle leaning against the troopy I made a little baseplate thing for it to keep it stablish)
Test fitting
Got that all...
Isn't this just instructions on replacing the stabilizer bar? Sorry if I misunderstood the original question. Panhard bar is the one in the front to keep the axle from lateral movement.
Yo, thanks for the advice!
Do you have a link to those resources? If anything, googling it gives me too many results and not sure what to look at.
The leak around the dip stick seems to be from the top of the tube as opposed to where it connects...
Look under the "Resources" tab here on Mud or check the manuals thread at the top of the Diesel forum here. There should be 2L-T and 2L-TE manuals there.
Sounds like you are on the right track of cleaning things up first so you can actually see what's what.
Until then, I would suggest to start with checking the oil feed and return lines from the turbo. Is the dipstick leaking where it goes into...
I guess it’s been a while with no update. Nothing crazy to report, fine tuning the camping setup, new pup in the family and a couple “work” trips
Down to the coast this summer. Life is good
317,000km is not much on a 1HZ, but of course there are a lot of caveats to that. Primarily maintenance history and use case. You might have a good understanding of these as it is coming from your father (condolences, btw)
It is a good idea to...
Hello,
If your test confirms the data you got, then continued driving may worsen whatever wear and tear your engine has.
Tired engines have this habit of giving up the ghost when you least expect it, with a lot of damage.
Plan for the worst...
Hello,
A simple test to determine whether it is a piston ring issue.
Add a small amount of engine oil into the cylinder and check the compression. If this results in a better value, then the piston rings and/or the cylinder are worn.
As...
Thanks rigster, juan,
Bought a compression test kit to verify myself. Very keen to give as much as I can a go myself.
It seems to run fine generally. I replaced leaking water pump and the timing belt at the same time. Thermostat, radiator...
Boy…zero tech or pictures from me. I’ve had some interesting and sad things happen but I’ll at least talk about some of the good things.
Another work trip, 1:45 each way in the cruiser and it just chugged along again. Got rain dumped on 5...
In my experience, not all shops are the same... Not to throw shade on the shop you are going to, but did they do a bore scope? Or a top down leak test? Is there blowby if you remove the oil filler cap? This could be just be a head refresh...
Well, after reaching out to several turbo builders I found an outfit in Poland that is happy to build a top mount, v-band vacuum converted turbo for me. Based on recommendations from my tuner and others I opted to go big on the turbo, got a...
I recently added a small fan up front. Every other vehicle I ever had with air conditioning had a small Pusher on the front of the condenser. I figured it couldn't hurt? One tricky part was finding a 24 volt fan. The other was finding one small...
